Bosca Brace Lifts Patriots Past Tigers for Tenth Win of the Season

Georgetown, KY – Laura Bosca tallies her first collegiate multi-goal game as the third-ranked Patriots women's soccer team nets four second half goals to defeat Georgetown 5-0 Friday night.  With the win, UC improves to 10-0-2 on the year and 4-0 in conference play.

Bosca finished with two goals, while Jayden Boelter tallied a goal and an assist in the match.  Nicole Araujo and Samantha Sokolove have now score in two straight games.  Laura Vogt made one save in the match, while Amy Anderson, Rita Aguye Cots, and Lucia Gomez were part of the Patriots backline that limited the Tigers to two shots in the match for their third consecutive shutout.

UC controlled the possession for majority of the first half but were held to just four shots in the period.  Cumberlands tallied three corner kicks in first eight minutes of play but couldn't convert as the game remained scoreless.  Moments later, Anderson begins a Patriot run up field and finds Sarah Hammerstone, who passes the ball out wide to Carola Fontan.  Fontan fired a shot on frame which was saved, however, Bosca was there for the rebound goal to give the Patriots a 1-0 lead in the 9'. The goal was Bosca's first collegiate goal and it's the second straight game she has tallied a point. Georgetown's Carson Smith put a shot on target in the 21' but Vogt was there for the save.  The Patriots continued to control the possession but couldn't extend their lead as they took a 1-0 lead into the break.

The Patriots looked to extend their lead early in the second half as Noah Paalman put a shot on goal in the 48' but the Tigers' keeper was their for the save.  Eventually, Bosca made a run down the left flank and crossed the ball into the box, where Samantha Sokolove put a well-placed shot into the net as she was going to the ground to make it 2-0.  Less than a minute later, Olaya Blanco led a transition and sent the ball forward to Bosca, who got behind the defense and fired a shot into the right corner of the net giving UC a 3-0 lead in the 64'.  Cumberlands added insurance goals by Araujo and Boelter late in the second half for the 5-0 final.

Cumberlands returns to the pitch Friday, October 20th, when they travel to Lawrenceville, GA to face #24 Georgia Gwinnett.
