Patriots Earn Second Straight Sweep

McKenzie, TN – The Cumberlands volleyball game has continued their strong season, earning the 3-0 (25-13, 25-13, 25-23) win over Bethel Saturday afternoon.  With the win, UC improves to 19-9 overall and 7-2 against the MSC. 

Allyson Grava led the way with 13 kills and six digs, while Sara Zampedri finished with 11 kills and 10 digs.  Kendall Arnold also tallied a double-double notching 31 assists and 11 digs, as Juliet Banks led the Patriots with 12 digs in the match.  Anna Blumeier chipped in eight kills.

The first set was tied at 3-3 before a Blumeier kill sparked a four-point Patriots run to give them a 7-3 advantage.  After the two teams traded points, Blumeier notched a kill which jump started a 7-0 run that included three kills from the junior to make it 17-9.  UC closed out the set on a 6-1 run, capped off by a Danielle Jackson kill to give Cumberlands the first set 25-13.

Juliet Banks recorded a pair aces to put the Patriots in front 5-3 in the second set.  Bethel pulled within a point before Jackson tallied a kill to start a four-point UC run, which was capped by a Jayce Braden block to make it 11-6.  After a Cumberlands six-point run, the Patriots won the final three points of the set, including a block from Kara Gipson to take the set 25-13 and the 2-0 advantage.

UC opened the third set lead 4-1.  After trading points, Zampedri tallied a pair of kills to extend the lead to 10-5.  The Wildcats went on a 6-3 run, however Grava led Cumberlands response with a kill to give the Patriots a 16-11 edge.  Bethel outscored UC 12-5 to take a 23-21 lead, however, the Patriots responded with four straight points, including a trio of kills from Grava to close out the set 25-23 and the match 3-0.

The Patriots will return to the court Wednesday, October 25, when they host Georgetown.  First serve is set for 6:30 p.m.
