Patriots Sweep Tigers for 20th Win of the Season

Williamsburg, KY – The Patriots volleyball team notched their 20th win of the season after earning their third consecutive sweep defeating Georgetown 3-0 (25-18, 25-11, 25-16) Wednesday night at the UC Volleyball Gym.  It's the third straight year and the seventh time under Head Coach Kathryn Park that the Patriots have reached the 20-win plateau in a season.

Allyson Grava led the way with 13 kills and three aces, while Sara Zampedri notched ten kills, nine digs, and four aces.  Kendall Arnold dished out 25 assists in the match, while Juliet Banks finished with a team-high 14 digs.  Savanah Jolly notched five aces in the match.

Grava tallied three kills early in the first set to even the score at 5-5. The score was tied six times before Georgetown scored five straight points to take a 15-11 advantage. Cumberlands battled back as Zampedri notched a pair of kills as part of a five-point run putting UC in front 16-15.  Zampedri notched three aces as part of a six point run to extend the lead to 22-16.  Savanah Jolly closed out the first set with the Patriots fifth ace of the night as they won the first set 25-18.

UC carried that momentum in the second set open with a 6-1 edge.  Grava added a kill and an ace to quickly make it 9-2.  The two teams traded points until UC went on a seven-point run, that included a pair of aces from Jolly to make it 23-9.  Danielle Jackson closed out the set with her second block of the night giving the Patriots a 2-0 lead.

A kill from Anna Blumeier sparked a five-point Patriots run in the third set as UC took a 7-2 lead. The Tigers rallied 7-3 run of their own to pull within a point a 10-9, however a Zampedri ace pushed UC's lead back to three points.  A couple plays later, Cumberlands went on an 8-1 run that include a pair of aces to give the Patriots a 24-15 advantage.  Arnold connected with Zampedri for the game-winning kill as UC took the set 25-16 and the win 3-0.

The Patriots return to the court Monday, October 30, when they travel to Columbia, KY to face Lindsey Wilson.  First serve is set for 7 p.m.
