UC Men's Soccer Concludes Regular Season with 3-3 Draw Against #5 Blue Raiders

Williamsburg, KY – After an "edge-of-your-seat" performance, the Patriots recorded a 3-3 draw against #5 Lindsey Wilson College. Cumberlands concludes the regular season with a record of 6-2-5 and 3-1-2 in conference play.

Altogether, UC had 12 shots with six being on frame. Mario Fernandez and Shuma Sasaki led the way with one goal apiece, two shots and two on frame. Rodrigo Riverso followed with one goal, one shot and one on frame.

In the first half, the Pats had to quickly work on defense. The Blue Raiders saw their first goal of the evening in the 34th minute to take an early 0-1 lead over the Pats.

UC goalie, Brandon Diaz, recorded two saves in the first half to keep the Blue Raiders at bay. In the 37', the Patriots went to work on offense with a high shot from Emil Skursch, a shot wide from Bart Jaan-Braams, and a blocked shot from Toufik Najem but were unable to capitalize sending the Pats into the half trailing, 0-1.

In the second half, the Blue Raiders were quick to score in the 46' for their second goal of the day and raised the score to 0-2.

In the 52nd minute, UC saw their first shot on frame from Salvador Martinez to kickstart the Patriots momentum followed by another shot on frame from Sasaki. A handball in the box from the Blue Raiders gave UC a crucial opportunity but were unable to capitalize.

In the 73', a pass a cross the box from Sasaki was deflected by the Blue Raiders goalie but Fernandez headed it into the back of the net to give the Pats their first goal of the evening and a 1-2 score.

Within 30 seconds, Riveros worked the ball up the field and a cross the box to Sasaki to tie the match at 2-2.

In retaliation, the Blue Raiders scored their final goal of the evening to recapture a 2-3 lead in the 76th minute.

With time dwindling out, UC was aggressive on offensive when a corner kick from Sasaki staged Riveros for the Pats final goal of the evening and collecting a 3-3 draw against #5 Lindsey Wilson.
