Patriots Snag 4-1 Victory from Lions with Martinez Hat Trick

Williamsburg, KY – After an offensively-aggressive first half, the Patriots collected a 4-1 victory over Freed-Hardeman University on Wednesday evening at the UC Soccer Complex. Cumberlands is now 5-2-3 on the season and improves to 2-1 in conference play.

Altogether, UC had 15 shots with nine being on frame. Salvador Martinez led the way with three goals to record his first hat trick of his career. Jesus Macaya followed with one goal, two shots with two on frame, rounded out by Rodrigo Riveros with two shots with one on frame.

The Patriots were quick on the board with their first goal of the evening in the 3rd minute of play. A corner kick from Emil Skursch was sent a cross the box to Karl Emil-Andersen who set Martinez up for his first goal of the day and a 1-0 Pats advantage.

The Patriots continued to attack early, seeing Bruno Garcia with a pass from midfield up to Jesus Macaya who maneuvered past defenders for UC's second goal of the day and a 2-0 lead.

The Lions were persistent and recorded their lone goal of the evening in the 18' to make the score 2-1 in favor of the Pats.

In the final minutes of the first half, a pass up the field from Bruno Garcia to Karl Emil-Andersen split the defense and a cross the box to Martinez, making the score 3-1 going into the half.

The second half held the Pats lead and continued to see aggressive offensive efforts. UC recorded six shots in the second half with two on frame. In the 83', a pass up field from Jonas Dahl to Shuma Sasaki was sent a cross the box to Martinez to record his third goal of the evening, his first hat trick of his career, first multi-goal game of his career, and a 4-1 Patriot victory.

UC will be back in action in just nine days time, traveling to face Georgetown College (KY). The game is set to kick off at 6:00 PM ET on Friday, October 13 in Georgetown, KY.
