UC Earns Third Straight Sweep After Taking Down Bethel

Williamsburg, KY – The UC volleyball team had a trio of players record double-digit kills as the Patriots notch their third consecutive sweep defeating Bethel 3-0 (25-13, 25-14, 25-16) Saturday afternoon in the UC Volleyball Gym.  The win moves the Patriots to 16-8 overall and 5-1 in conference play, while the Wildcats move to 7-10 overall and 2-4 against the MSC.

Allyson Grava carried the momentum from yesterday and tallied 15 kills, including seven in the first set, to lead the way.  Sara Zampedri notched 11 kills and eight digs, while Danielle Jackson finished with 10 kills.  Kendall Arnold tallied 33 assists and nine digs as Savanah Jolly notched 11 digs to go along with a career-high six aces.

Bethel scored the first point of the match before Grava and Jackson notched back-to-back kills to spark an eight-point run.  Banks also tallied a pair of aces as part of that run.  Cumberlands quickly extended their lead on a 7-1 run as Arnold dished out four assists to make it 15-3.  The two teams traded points until Zampedri notched back-to-back kills, before closing out the set with a kill as UC took the set 25-13.

The second set was tied at 2-2 before consecutive kills from Grava and Jackson to put Cumberlands in front 4-2.  Jolly recorded three straight aces as part of a 7-1 Patriot run to give UC an 11-3 edge.  The two teams traded points as Jackson tallied back-to-back kills to extend the Patriots lead to 19-9.  A couple plays later, a Jackson kill sparked a 4-1 Cumberlands run as UC closed out the set 25-14 to take the 2-0 lead.

The Wildcats jumped out to a 10-7 lead in the third set.  Arnold dished out a pair of assists and added a kill as part of a four-point run to give the Patriots their first lead of the set.  A Grava kill sparked a 7-1 Patriot run which extended their lead to 20-13.  Cumberlands closed out the match with a 4-1 run capped off by an ace from Banks.
