Williamsburg, KY – Patriots forward
Jayden Boelter recorded a hat trick to lead the third-ranked and top-seeded UC women's soccer team to a 5-1 win over (RV) and fourth-seed Campbellsville Wednesday afternoon at the UC Soccer Complex. With the win, Cumberlands improves to 13-0-3 and advances to the MSC title game where they will face #13 Cumberland.
Boelter notched her fourth multi-goal game of the season to lead the Patriots, while she also has five game-winning goals to her credit. With the six points today, the Hebron, KY native becomes the Patriots all-time leader in career points with 163 surpassing Kelly Tragesser 159 points from 1997-2001.
Noah Paalman notched three points in the match, while
Nicole Araujo added a goal. Four other Patriots were credited with assists in the match.
The Patriots controlled the possession in the opening minutes with a corner kick and a shot early into the contest. In the 7' Paalman was bring the ball up the right side before she passed it forward to
Carola Fontan. The MSC First Team All-Conference selection sent a cross into the box where Boelter headed into the net giving UC the 1-0 advantage. Campbellsville notched there first shot moments later, however the Pats defense turn the Tigers away. UC continued to control the possession tallying three corner kicks and two shots over the next 15 minutes of play.
Cumberlands extend their lead in the 27' minute as
Olaya Blanco begin a transition pushing the ball forward to Araujo, who then found
Judit Moya. After a couple dribbles, Moya sent the ball out wide to
Laura Bosca, who set a cross into front of the back post where Boelter made an incredible dive to head the ball into the net and give UC a 2-0 lead. The Tigers added one shot, which sailed over the crossbar however the Patriots took a 2-0 advantage into the break.
Campbellsville came out strong in the second half looking to cut into the lead tallying two shots and a corner kick within the first three minutes. The score remained 2-0 until the 54' when Araujo fired a lob shot from 40 yards out that sailed just over the reach of the Tigers keeper and into the back of the net. Ten minutes late, Fontan connected with Blanco, who sent a strong cross into the box where Paalman was there to finish to make it 4-0. It is the second consecutive game that Paalman has netted a goal. After the Tigers cut the lead to 4-1, Boelter competed her hat trick with a goal in the 75' off an assist from
Kallen Fuller to make it 5-1.
Georgia Martell made both of her two saves over the final 15 minutes for the 5-1 final.
