Patriots Utilized Balanced Scoring in Win over Bulldogs

Williamsburg, KY – The 15th-ranked Cumberlands women's basketball team had seven players score at least seven points as the Patriots returned home for a 104-50 win over Union Thursday night at the O. Wayne Rollins Center.  With the win, UC improves to 10-4 on the year.

Kassie Monday led the way with 15 points and eight assist, while Kaylie Monday notched 13 points, six assists, five steals, and four rebounds.  The junior also notched her 200th steal of her career in the contest.  Lakin Burke tallied 13 points and a team-high six rebounds, while Destiny Haworth chipped in 12 points to go along with a trio of rebounds.

Cumberlands opened the game on a 15-0 run as Haworth and Burke combined for the first 13 points, while Kaylie Monday notched a steal and found Kassie Monday for a layup to cap it off.  After the teams traded baskets twice, Kassie Monday made a layup and added four points a part of seven unanswered Patriots points as UC took a 27-8 lead after the first quarter.

Just over a minute into the second quarter, Haworth drained a three to spark an 8-0 run that included a three-point play from LeeAnna McNulty making it 35-10 three-minutes in.  Kassie Monday dished out a pair of assists to extend their lead to 44-15.  Later in the quarter, UC recorded three steals, which resulted in six points as Cumberlands took a 55-20 lead into half.

Channing Lewis converted a layup, while Kassie Monday and Burke netted UC's next nine points making it 66-25 with 6:50 remaining.  The Patriots went on a 16-4 run that included Joy Kendrick finding Amy Thompson for a three-pointer and Casey Coleman for a layup.  Victory Fredricks added five points as the Patriots extended their lead to 89-38.

Just over a minute into the fourth quarter, Whitney Caldwell sent a laser pass up court to Thompson for a fast break layup.  Brittni Allison drained a three before Thomspon connected with Coleman for a jumper to make it 100-44.  Coleman and Allison added Cumberlands final four points for the 104-50 final.

The Patriots finished the game with 29 assists and 21 steals, while converting at 50% from the field.  It's the third straight game that UC has shot at least 50% from the field.

Cumberlands will return to the court, Thursday, January 4th, when they host Miami-Hamilton.  Tip is slated for 5:30 p.m.
