Allendale, MI – The Patriots posted several solid performances on day two of the GVSU Big Meet on Saturday afternoon.
Caleb Rigney highlighted UC's day with a B standard in the mile.
Rigney ran a 4:16.95 mile to finish 8
th overall, and earn a trip to the NAIA Indoor National Championships. This was the second fastest mile in the MSC this season.
Ludovico Vaccari also posted an 8
th place finish in Michigan. The freshman ran in the 3,000m race, crossing the finish line in 8:36.64, less than a second off of a national standard.
Colby Bales also posted a top-10 performance on the day, finishing tied for eighth in the high jump. The freshman cleared the bar at 1.78.
Christian Dingus also competed in this event, placing 12
th with a 1.78m jump as well. Bales also entered the long jump, hitting a mark of 5.04m while his teammate
Troy Grubb leaped 4.51m.
The 60m hurdle event featured a trio of Patriots.
Nathan Howard led the way with a 14
th place finish after clocking a time of 8.87. Dingus entered this event as well finishing 15
th in 8.96 while Connor Arroyo ran an 8.97 for 17
th.
Lonnell Johnson led all UC finishers in the 800m with a 13
th place finish after crossing the finish in 1:56.43. Senior
Garrett Hadaway also ran in this race, finishing in 2:04.59 for 37
th.
UC sent out
Andrew Josephs for multiple sprint events including the 60m dash and 200m dash. Josephs ran a 7.10 60m for 11
th and posted a 24
th place finish in the 200m with a 23.33 time.
Alex Lockhart was the lone UC competitor in the pole vault event where he placed 11
th after clearing the a height of 3.91m. The throwers rounded out the day for Cumberlands as
James Crawford,
Logan White, and
Xavier Ramsey took 21
st through 23
rd place in the shot put while White, Ramsey, and
Aaron Coffey went 24
th – 26
th in the weight throw.
UC is geared up for the conference championships which will be held in Louisville, KY this week. This is a one-day meet slated for Friday the 17
th.
