Williamsburg, KY- UC picked up a split against Lawrence Tech. The Blue Devils took the first game 5-3, and the Patriots rebounded to take game two 16-1.
Game Two
Jake Kmiecik got the start and the win, as he pitched 4.0 innings giving up four hits and only one run. Kmiecik also had three walks and two strikeouts.
Joe Bertram came in and pitched 1.0 innings, allowing one hit, no runs, two walks, and two strikeouts.
Bryan Juarez closed the game out as he pitched 2.0 innings, giving of one hit and four strikeouts.
Both
Charlie Muniz and
Ryan Shavers hit homeruns. Muniz went 2-4 with the homerun and a double, while Shavers lone hit was a homerun with three RBIs.
Josh Simon had a good day as he went 3-4 with two doubles and two RBIs.
Josiah Santiago also went 3-4 with four RBIs and two stolen bases.
Raphy Almanzar led off with a double down the left field line. Muniz followed with another double down the line, allowing Almanzar to score. Both
Sujel Arias and
Max Harper got walked to fill the bases. Then Simon stepped to the plate and notched his first double for two RBIs and the 3-0 lead. Next, Shavers hit a three-run bomb over the center field fence for the 6-0 lead.
The Blue Devils got a run in the top of the second, and Muniz responded with a lead off homerun to left field for the 7-1 lead.
In UC's next at bat
Evan St Claire led off with a walk, and stole second two pitches later. Then Santiago singled to deep left center and St Claire scored. Santiago stole second, then Almanzar and Arias got walked. With the bases loaded, Harper doubled to left center for three RBIs for the 11-1.
After a couple scoreless innings, UC scored five runs. Simon led off with a single to right field. Shavers got hit by a pitch and St Claire got walked to fill the bases. Then Santiago singled to right field and advanced to second on a fielding error. Santiago got three RBIs on the play to extend the led 14-1.
Frank Garcia and
Ben Snapp got hit by pitches. Then
Kevin Perez singled up the middle for two RBIs and extended the lead to 16-1.
Game One
Hunter Rigsby made his first appearance of the year and pitched 3.0 innings, allowing one hit, one run and nine strikeouts. At the plate, Santiago went 2-3 with one RBI, while Simon went 1-2 with an RBI and a walk.
After a scoreless first inning, the Blue Devil took the 1-0 lead in the top of the second. The Patriots took the 2-1 lead. Arias led off with a single towards third base and advanced to second on a balk. Two batters later, Simon notched an RBI single up the middle to tie the game. Next, Shavers singled down the left field line to put runners on the corners. Two batters later, Santiago singled through the right side for an RBI and the 2-1 lead.
Lawrence Tech regained the lead in the top of the fifth, 5-2. In the bottom of the seventh, UC was able to get a run across from a balk, to make it 5-3 but could not get any closer.
Cumberlands moved to 4-1 and will have a doubleheader against Lawrence Tech to complete this weekend series starting at 1 pm.
