UC Post Several Top Performances in First Outdoor Meet

Louisville, KY – Cumberlands competed in the Jim Vargo Classic hosted by Bellarmine University on Friday. The Pats posted one individual win and placed second overall in the team standings behind numerous podium finishes.
 
UC's individual win came from Tristan Petrey who continued to impress in the pole vault competition. The indoor All-American hit a "B" standard mark of 4.70m for first-place. Kade Slusser and Logan Lambo came away with second and fourth place finishes in this event as well after clearing the bar at 3.85m and 3.25m. Slusser also competed in the high jump where he came away with a bronze finish with a 1.55m mark. Christian Dingus and Colby Bales tied for fourth in this event with 1.45m jumps as well.
 
The sprinters had a great day in Louisville led by a second-place finish in the 100m dash from Elyon Bando. He crossed the finish line in 10.93 while his teammate, Jeremy Slaughter ran an 11.14 for eighth. Slaughter also scored in the 200m dash with a 23.71 finish for seventh while Deiron White clocked a 23.43 to finish fifth.
 
The second silver medal performance on the track came in the 5,000m run. Ludovico Vaccari paced a 15:00.39 for second place overall, and scored 10 points for UC as the first-place finisher did not contribute a team score.
 
Deshawn Crowe came away with a third-place finish in the 800m race on Friday. He ran his two laps in 1:57.96 as UC's lone scorer in the event. Cumberlands gained 10 team points in the 400m from four Patriots. Christian Dingus finished fifth in 53.31 while Andy Tchyombo and Evan McCrickard finished sixth and seventh with times of 53.64 and 53.86. Matthew Yeary rounded out UC's scorers in the 400m with a 54.00 time for eighth.
 
The javelin throw saw another podium finish from the Pats. Austin Meacham had a 39.93m toss for third while Heath Rexroat reached a distance of 38.66m for fifth-place. Two other Patriot throwers came away with seventh place finishes to score more points for their team. Aaron Coffey competed in the hammer where he hit a 41.07m mark while Nijia Barron entered the circle in the discus throw and finished with a 38.69m throw. Mason Smith rounded out UC's field athletes with a fifth-place performance in the long jump. The freshman posted a 5.44m leap in his second attempt of the day.
 
UC finished the day with 98 total team points for second place. Seton Hill came away victorious after scoring 115 while Bellarmine finished third with 73 points respectively.
 
The Patriots will be back in action next weekend where they will have athletes competing in Kennesaw, GA and Black Mountain, NC.
