Black Mountain, NC – The Patriots had a great second day at the Montreat College Open, including multiple NAIA "A" standards and top-three finishes.
 
The first national cut of the day came from Carson Johnson who paced a 23:19.06 in the 5K racewalk. He finished second overall, and first out of the NAIA athletes that attended.
 
The next "A" cut came in the 4x100 relay where the squad of Kerrington Eubanks, Elyon Bando, Ryan Long, and Matthew Chavers combined for a 40.76 finish for second place. UC's relay teams continued to dominate as the 4x800 took home first place. Deshawn Crowe, Andrew Barker, Caleb Rigney, and Lonnell Johnson earned their first place finish in 7:58.84. Cumberlands "B" squad of Noah McClellan, Clay Houge, Dillan Melchiore, and Evan McCrickard earned fourth place after a 8:37.94 finish. The 4x400 relay event also saw a UC squad in the top-two as Jeremy Slaughter, Long, Chavers, and Jon O'Hair sprinted to a 3:21.27 finish.
 
Crowe and Lonnell Johnson also competed in the 800m run where they finished back-to-back in fourth and fifth. Crowe clocked a 1:55 while Johnson ran his two laps in 1:55.74. Johnson also ran in the 400m dash where he placed 6^th with a 50.56 finish. Andy Tchyombo also earned a top-10 finish after running a 51.62.
 
The final two sprints of the day were the 100m and 200m dashes. Eubanks and Long placed seventh and ninth in the 100m with times of 10.81 and 10.85 while Slaughter and Chavers paced 200m times of 22.34 and 22.58 for sixth and tenth respectively.
 
UC competed in two field events on Friday. The hammer throw saw a sixth place finish from Aaron Coffey with a 44.14m mark. Logan White finished two spots behind his teammate after a 42.19m throw. Mason Smith was the lone Patriot in the triple jump. He placed ninth with a best jump of 12.13m.
 
The Patriots have two meets scheduled for next week, including the Washington University Distance Carnival and the Centre College Invitational.
