Athens, TN- The 11
th ranked Patriots took down the second ranked Tennessee Wesleyan Bulldogs 10-4. UC tallied three homeruns on their way to a 26-5 record on the season.
Chipper Korbacher got the nod to start and he pitched 4.0 innings only allowing three hits for one run, and four strikeouts.
Knicko Billings came in relief and picked up the win as he pitched 2.1 innings scattering five hits for three runs, four walks, and two strikeouts.
Zach Carlsen also made an appearance and closed out the seventh to stop the Bulldogs momentum.
Cesar Avila came in to close and pitched 1.1 innings only giving up one hit with two strikeouts.
At the plate, the birthday boy
Max Harper led the way as he went 2-4. Both of his hits were homeruns as he tallied six RBIs.
Charlie Muniz also had a good day as he went 3-4 with a homerun and four RBIs.
Caden Petrey also went 3-4 and added a triple.
The Bulldogs got on the board first as they scored one run in the first. UC answered in the top of the third with four runs.
Ryan Shavers led off the inning with a single to left field and stole second a few pitches later. Petrey notched a single to put runners on the corners, then Muniz followed with an RBI single to tie the game at 1-1. Two batters later, Harper would give the Patriots the lead with a three-run shot over the center field fence for the 4-1 lead.
Later in the fifth, UC added four more runs to their lead by way of two two-run homers. Petrey led off the inning with a single to left field. Two batters later, Muniz hit the first homerun of the inning to make it a 6-1 game.
Sujel Arias got hit by pitch after a change of pitchers, and Harper followed with his second homerun of the game to give the Pats an 8-1 lead.
In the next UC at-bat, Petrey led off the inning with a triple to right field. Two batters later, Muniz notched another RBI single for the 9-1 lead. After a change of pitchers, Arias notched a single to center field to put runners on the corners. Then a sacrifice fly from Harper scored another run for the 10-1 lead.
The Bulldogs was able to score three runs in the seventh to cut the lead down to 10-4, but that was as close as they would get. Cumberlands will return home this weekend for a conference series against Wilberforce.
