Patriots Rally Comes Up Short

West Palm Beach, FL – Gabe Schwaiger made a career-high six caused turnovers and Michael Toohey finished with 15 saves but it wasn't enough as the fifth-ranked Patriots fell to top-ranked Keiser 10-6 Thursday night.  With the win, Keiser improves to 11-0 overall and 6-0 in AAC play, while the Patriots move to 7-3 overall and 2-2 in conference.

Schwaiger six caused turnovers are tied for the third most in program history, while he also scooped four ground balls in the game.  Toohey made at least four saves in each of the final three periods. Will Rogers added two goals to lead all goal scorers for the Patriots.

Keiser jumped out to a 3-0 lead over the first five minutes of play to take the early advantage.  The Patriots responded as Dom Lulow fired a shot just inside the post for a goal to cut the deficit to 3-1 with 8:39 remaining in the opening quarter.  UC tallied four caused turnovers, while Michael Toohey made a save to keep the Seahawks scoreless over the next seven minutes, however, Keiser added a goal late to extend their lead to 4-1.

Both defenses stepped up in the second quarter as Toohey made five saves in the period to keep UC within striking distance.  Keiser extended their lead to 5-1 with 3:14 remaining before Tanner Popovich netted an unassisted to goal to cut the deficit to 5-2 at the break.

Cumberlands was able to pull within two goals as Maalek Wilson scooped a ground ball raced up field and fired a well-placed shot into the back of the cage to make it 5-3 with 7:04 remaining.  Keiser scored four unanswered goals to close out the quarter with a 9-3 advantage.

The two teams traded goals to open the fourth quarter, before Toohey made a pair of saves to keep the score 10-4.  That second save lead to a Patriots transition as Dawson Coltran fired a shot into the cage to make it 10-5 midway through the fourth period.  Moments later Christian Vanover forced a Seahawks turnover and connected with Rogers for a goal to bring UC within four at 10-6 with 7:47 left.  The Patriots tried to cu the deficit however neither team connected for the 10-6 final.

UC returns to the field Saturday, April 1, when they travel to Babson Park, Fl to face sixth-ranked Webber.  The game is set for a 2 p.m. start.
