Williamsburg, KY – The sixth-ranked Patriots women's lacrosse team captured their fourth straight victory this time a 23-3 win over Madonna Saturday afternoon at the UC Lacrosse Complex. With the win, Cumberlands improves to 5-1 on the season.
Emma Rittman led the way for UC with six goals, eight points, 10 draw controls, and five ground balls in the game.
Anna Lobbezoo and
Bella Ricchiazzi each added four goals, while
Aleyah Belton notched a hat trick.
Reegan Hensley chipped in four points, while
Koral Hadac tallied three caused turnovers and scooped four draw controls and three round balls.
Madonna strikes first as they score on their first possession of the game to take a 1-0 advantage, however UC responds 32 seconds later with an
Emma Rittman goal to tie the game. Rittman won the ensuing draw control and ran a gave-and-go with
Morgan Terpstra to make it 2-1 three minutes into the first quarter.
Olivia McCarrell saved a free position and on the ensuing UC possession Marisa Heslten found
Anna Lobbezoo for the goal to make it 3-1. The Patriots added three unanswered goals, including man-up goals from Rittman and
Bella Ricchiazzi to make it 6-1 with 4:29 remaining.
Aleyah Belton added three straight goals before
Reese Kincaid found the back of the cage in the closing seconds of the period to make it 10-1.
Ricchiazzi added a goal and an assist to get things started on the offensive end for the Patriots as they extended their lead to 12-1. Madonna scored two of the next three goals before Lobbezoo coverted a free position in the closing seconds of the half to make it 14-3.
The Patriots came out of the second half controlling the possession winning all six draw controls and outshooting the Crusaders 8-0.
Reegan Hensley and Helsten each added a goal in the first three minutes of the period to make it 16-3. UC added a goal from three different Patriots to take a 19-3 advantage into the fourth.
Cumberlands continued to play strong defense in the fourth quarter limiting Madonna to just one shot, which was save by
Mia Bosah. Rittman netted two goals as part of UC's four goals in the period for the 23-3 final.
UC outshot Madonna 39-5 in the game, while won the draw control battle 21-6.
The Patriots will return to the field Wednesday, March 8, when they host (RV) Georgetown in an AAC showdown. The game is slated to begin at 7 p.m. with live video available
