Williamsburg, KY- The 15
th ranked Patriots split the day but took the series 2-1. UC took the first game 10-5 and dropped the second game 8-7.
Max Harper tallied three home runs on the day as the Pats moved to 15-3.
Game One
Garrett DeClue got the start and win as he pitched 5.0 innings. He only allowed four hits, and four earned runs, with three walks and six strikeouts.
Caleb Plummer came in to close and pitched 2.0 innings. He only allowed one hit, no walks or runs with three strikeouts.
At the plate,
Max Harper went 3-3 with two home runs and seven RBIs.
Evan St Claire also hit a home run as he went 3-4 with two RBIs.
Ben Snapp went 2-3 with both of his hits being extra-base hits. Snapp hit a double and a triple.
The Pats got off to a hot start putting on four runs in their first at-bat.
Raphy Almanzar led off with a walk, followed by a
Charlie Muniz double.
Sujel Arias would then get walked to fill the bases. Harper then got a grand slam to center field to take the 4-0 lead.
In UC's next at-bat, they added two more runs to their lead. With one out, Muniz hit a single to left field. Arias followed with a single through the right side and went to second on the throw, while
Kevin Perez stole second and advanced on the throw. Harper notched another RBI with a single to right field. A couple of plays later, Arias scored on a wild pitch for the 6-0 lead.
After a couple of scoreless innings, the Pats added three more runs. With one out, Harper notched his second home run of the day to left center.
Ryan Shavers followed with a walk; then St Claire hit a bomb over the left field fence for the 9-0 lead.
The Tigers got five runs across in the top of the fifth, but Cumberlands answered with a run in their next at bat. With one out, Muniz reached on an error and advanced to second. Courtesy runner Perez advanced to third on a balk while Arias got walked. Harper would get his seventh RBI from a sacrifice fly to make it 10-5. The score stayed at 10-5 for the remainder of the game, as the Pats won the series.
Game Two
Jake Kmiecik got the start as he pitched 5.0 innings, allowing four hits for two runs; only one was earned, with five strikeouts.
Cesar Avila got the loss as he pitched 1.0 innings allowing one hit for two runs. At the plate, Petrey went 2-3 with a home run and a double, while Almanzar and Harper added home runs as well.
After a scoreless first two innings, the Patriots got two runs across. Snapp led off with a single to center field. Petrey followed with a double to right center. Almanzar got an RBI from a sacrifice fly. Then Petrey scored on a wild pitch for the 2-0 lead.
The Tigers were able to tie the game at 2-2 in the top of the fifth. UC responded with two runs to retake the lead. With one out, Arias singled up the middle. Then, Harper hit his third home run of the day to take the 4-2 lead.
In the sixth, Campbellsville notched a home run, then the Pats answered with back-to-back home runs. Petrey started the inning with a solo home run to left field. One pitch later, Almanzar hit a bomb to left field for the 6-3 lead.
The Tigers score three runs in the top of the seventh to tie the game at 6-6. Â Cumberlands regained the lead in the bottom half of the inning, as St Claire got walked to lead off their at bat. A couple of pitches later he would steal second. After an out,
Josh Simon doubled to right field for an RBI and the 7-6 lead.
Then in the top of the ninth, Campbellsville took the lead as they scored two runs to take an 8-7 lead. In the bottom half of the inning, St Claire led off with a walk, then stole second three pitches later. Simon advanced St Claire to third, but a groundout ended the game 8-7.
