Florence, KY- The ninth ranked Patriots dropped a hard-fought series opener against Thomas More. The Saints won 4-3, as the Patriots dropped to 34-6 on the season.
Hunter Rigsby got the start and pitched 5.0 innings allowing seven hits, four runs, three walks, with five strikeouts.
Dustin Sprong came in relief and pitched 3.0 innings giving up two hits, one walk, while striking out three.
Charlie Muniz led the Patriots offense going 2-4 with a homerun and double with three RBIs.
Josh Simon went 2-3 with a double, while
Evan St Claire went 2-4.
The Saints got on the board first as they scored a run in each of the first two innings. UC responded with a run in the third. Simon led off the inning with a single.
Ryan Shavers reached on an error before advancing to second on a fielder's choice. Muniz then notched his RBI double to cut the deficit to 2-1.
Thomas More scored two runs in the sixth for the 4-1 lead. Cumberlands answered with two runs in the eighth.
Raphy Almanzar started the inning by getting hit by a pitch. Muniz followed with a two run homer to make it a 4-3 game.
The Saints held the Pats scoreless for the rest of the game to get the 4-3 win. UC will look to rebound in tomorrow's double header starting at noon.
