Patriots Soar Past Eagles to Remain Unbeaten

Williamsburg, KY – The fourth-ranked UC women's soccer team utilized a quick strike early into the second half to remain unbeaten with a 1-0 win over #24 Reinhardt, Saturday afternoon at the UC Soccer Complex.  The Patriots improve to 3-0 on the season with all three wins coming against ranked opponents.

UC outshot the Eagles 16-9 in the game, including a 9-2 shot on goal advantage. Jayden Boelter netted her third game-winning goal of the season this time off an assist from Nicole Araújo and Olaya BlancoLaura Vogt made a pair of saves to tally her second shutout of the year.

Cumberlands looked to strike first as Camryn Broz tallied a pair of shots in the first five minutes, the second of which deflected off the post.  UC continued to control the possession firing off three more shots, with two of them on frame, however the Eagles' keeper made a pair of stops to keep the game scoreless.  The Patriots earned another opportunity in the 26' as Boelter got behind the backline, however, the shot sailed over the crossbar as the teams went into halftime tied 0-0.

Reinhardt opened the second half with their first shot of the game which was saved by Vogt.  Two minutes later, Blanco sent a ball forward to Araújo, who made a quick move before centering the ball to a charging Boelter for the goal to put UC in front 1-0 at the 49:14 mark.  Vogt earned her second save of the afternoon, before Cumberlands notched six shots and three corner kicks over the final 20 minutes but couldn't add an insurance goal for the 1-0 final.

This marks the sixth straight year that UC has won at least three straight games to open the season.  The Patriots backline of Rita Aguye Cots, Amy Anderson, and Camryn Broz helped limit the Eagles to just two shots in the game.

UC will return to action Friday, September 1, when they travel to Marian, IN to face #14 Indiana Wesleyan.  Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. with live video available here.
