Patriots Drop Road Contest Despite of Pair of Career-High's

Campbellsville, KY -  Savanah Jolly and Sara Zampedri both recorded career-high for digs, however, it wasn't enough as the Patriots dropped a road match to Campbellsville 3-2 (25-20, 22-25, 17-25, 25-23, 7-15) Tuesday night at Gosser Gym.  With the win, the Tigers improve to 5-8 overall, while the Patriots move to 11-7 overall and 1-1 in conference play.

Jolly notched a career-high 25 digs, while Zampedri finished with 22 digs to go along with 16 kills.  Allyson Grava tallied a team-high 19 kills and nine digs in the match as Kara Gipson and Danielle Jackson combined for 16 kills.  Kendall Arnold dished out 43 assists while Juliet Banks had five aces and 23 digs.

Savanah Jolly opened the match with an ace to set the tone for the Patriots.  UC went on a 4-1 run, including a kill from Allyson Grava to extend the lead to 5-2.  Campbellsville pulled within a point at 7-6, however, Kara Gipson and Sara Zampedri notched kills to extend UC's lead to 10-6.  Two plays later, Jada McAvene connected with Anna Blumeier for a kill to give the Patriots a 12-7 advantage.  The two teams traded points until Danielle Jackson tallied a kill, which sparked a 6-2 Cumberlands run, that included a pair of aces from Juliet Banks giving the Patriots a 19-12 lead.  Kendall Arnold connected with Zampedri for a kill as UC took a 22-14 lead.  The Tigers scored six straight points to pull within two, however Grava and Zampedri combined for three straight points to close out the set and give UC the 1-0 lead.

Campbellsville jumped out to a 2-1 lead in the second set, before a Grava kill coupled with an ace from Banks put UC in front 3-2.  The two traded points until Arnold found Zampedri for a kill, which sparked a four-point run as UC took a 10-8 advantage.  The Tigers responded with a four-point run of their own, however Arnold tallied two kills and an assist to even the score at 13-13.  The match was tied five times before Jackson notched a kill to put UC in front 21-20.  Campbellsville closed out the set on a 5-1 run to win the set 25-21 and even the score at 1-1.

The Tigers opened the third set on a 7-1 run and eventually took a 12-6 advantage.  Arnold then connected with Zampedri to spark a 5-1 Patriot run to cut the deficit to 13-11.  Campbellsville eventually closed out the set 25-17 to take a 2-1 lead.

UC looked to rally in the fourth set as Rylie Depue and Kara Gipson combined for a block to open the set.  Banks notched a pair of aces as part of a three-point run to give the Patriots a 4-0 lead. The two teams traded points until a four-point Tigers run tied the score at 7-7. Arnold connected with Zampedri and Blumeier for kills to take a 9-8 edge.  The match was tied eight times before Gipson notched a kill to put UC in front 18-17.  Grava notched three consecutive kills to extend the Patriots lead to 22-18.  Grava added one more kill as Campbellsville went on a 4-1 run, however Arnold found Zampedri to force a fifth set after UC took the fourth set 25-23.

The two teams traded points to open the fifth set, before Jackson connected with Grava for a kill to give UC a 2-1 advantage.  The two teams traded points until a kill from Gipson put the Patriots in front 7-6.  Campbellsville scored nine unanswered points to close out the set and the match.
