Williamsburg, KY – After a valiant effort and evenly matched game, the Patriots recorded a 1-1 draw against #12 Georgia Gwinnett College on Wednesday. Cumberlands is now 3-1-3 on the season.
Altogether, UC had eight shots with three being on frame.
Mario Fernandez tallied the lone goal of the game with one shot on frame.
Shuma Sasaki and Martinez Salvador followed with one shot and one on frame, rounded out by
Karl-Emil Andersen with two shots.
The Patriots were on the offensive side in the first half with their first shot on frame from
Mario Fernandez in the 10
th minute. A free kick for the Pats saw
Karl-Emil Andersen with a shot that deflected off the post followed by a shot on frame from
Salvador Martinez.
In the final eight seconds of the first half, a pass from
Jesus Macaya to Sasaki was sent across the box to Fernandez was tapped in to give UC a 1-0 lead heading into the half.
The second half held a Pats lead with strong defense through the 76
th minute of play. The Grizzlies took advantage of a corner kick to even the playing field, 1-1.
UC was aggressive on offense with one shot on frame and four corner kicks in the final minutes of play. A blocked shot prevented the Grizzlies from getting the upper hand, resulting in a 1-1 draw.
UC will be back in action in just three days time, remaining in the UC Soccer/Lacrosse Complex. The game against (RV) Campbellsville University is set to kick off at 4:30 PM ET on Saturday, September 23 in Williamsburg, KY.
