Williamsburg, KY – After an offensively filled first half, the Patriots collected a 3-0 victory over (RV) Campbellsville University on Saturday afternoon at the UC Soccer Complex. Cumberlands is now 4-1-3 on the season and improves to 1-0-0 in conference play.
Altogether, UC had 11 shots with three being on frame. Karl Emil-Andersen led the way with one goal, two shots with one on frame and two assists.
Salvador Martinez and
Rodrigo Riveros followed with one goal, one shot and one on frame, rounded out by
Bruno Garcia with two shots.
The Patriots were aggressive on offensive in the first half seeing their first shot of the day from Shuma Saskai in the 8
th minute. In the 17', a pass from Andersen to
Jonas Dahl was sent a cross the box to Martinez for a 1-0 advantage.
The 23
rd minute saw Andersen with a shot off the crossbar followed by a shot from
Jesus Macaya that was just high as the score remained 1-0.
In the 40', a pass across the box from Andersen to Riveros was kicked between the legs to go past the goalie and give UC a 2-0 advantage. Within 3 minutes, a pass across the box from
Taro Fujioka to Andersen collected the Pats final goal of the afternoon and sent the Patriots into the half with a 3-0 lead.
The second half held a Pats lead with strong defense efforts as the Tigers collected five shots with one on frame. The Pats strong defense was seen in the 48
th minute with a blocked shot, followed by a save from
Brandon Diaz in the 87
th minute to secure UC's first conference victory of the season and their first clean sheet of the year.
UC will be back in action in just six days time, traveling to face #13 Bethel University (TN). The game is set to kick off at 4:30 PM ET on Friday, September 29 in McKenzie, TN.
