Box Score McKenzie, TN - After a resilient display of defense, the Patriots fell just short, 0-1, to the #13 Bethel Wildcats. Cumberlands is now 4-2-3 on the season and falls to 1-1-0 in conference play.
Altogether, UC had nine shots with six being on frame. Taro Fujioka led the way with four shots and three on frame. Emil Skursch, Jonas Dahl, and Antonis Seraphides followed with one shot with one on frame.
The Patriots saw their first shot on frame from Seraphides within eight minutes of play. Back-to-back corner kicks from Skursch gave UC multiple opportunities to jump ahead early, but were unable to capitalize.
The 38' saw the Wildcats score their lone goal of the afternoon and take an early lead over the Patriots. In the 44th minute, a shot from Fujioka missed just wide and sent UC into the half trailing 0-1.
In the second half, the Patriots were aggressive with a shot on frame from Fujioka in the first thirty seconds of play. In the 62nd minute, a corner kick from Shuma Sasaki presented the Pats with a goal opportunity, but another shot on frame from Fujioka just missed.
In the 81', a yellow card on the Wildcats set the Pats up for a free kick, leading to a Fujioka header that missed just high. In the 83', a shot on frame from Dahl continued the Pats fast-paced attempts, but ultimately was not enough as UC fell short 0-1.
UC will be back in action in just five days time, returning to the UC Lacrosse/Soccer Complex to face Freed-Hardeman University (TN). The game is set to kick off at 7:00 PM ET on Wednesday, October 4 in Williamsburg, KY.
