Williamsburg, KY – Kassie Monday and
Kaylie Monday combined for 43 points and 12 assists but it wasn't enough as the #15 UC women's basketball team dropped their MSC opener to #3 Campbellsville 88-70 Thursday night on Randy Vernon Court. With the win, the Tigers move 14-1 on the year, while the Patriots move to 12-5 overall.
Kaylie Monday led the way with 22 points, six steals, five assists, and five rebounds, while
Kassie Monday notched 21 points, seven assists, and a pair of rebounds.
Lakin Burke chipped in 11 points as
Channing Lewis made seven rebounds, three assists, and two blocks.
Patriots opened the game with
Destiny Haworth connecting with
Kassie Monday for a three-pointer. Campbellsville went on a 10-0 run, over a four-minute span, before
Kaylie Monday sank one from long range to cut the deficit to 10-6 with 5:40 remaining.
Kassie Monday dished out assists to
Kaylie Monday and
Lakin Burke as the Tigers lead 21-13 with 2:45 remaining. In the closing minute of the quarter,
Kaylie Monday record a steal and laid it in on the other end to cut the deficit to 22-16 after the first period.
Campbellsville netted the first four points of the second quarter before
Kassie Monday hit her second three-pointer to pull the Patriots within seven. The Tigers added six unanswered points over the next three minutes as Monday and Burke converted back-to-back layup to make it 32-23 midway through the second quarter. That sparked a 7-0 Patriots run as
Channing Lewis added a bucket and an assist. A minute later Lewis connected with
Kaylie Monday for a pair of three's to pull UC within four at 36-32 with 2:42 left. The Tigers closed out the half on an 8-0 run to take a 45-32 lead into the break.
Kassie Monday opened the third quarter with a jumper and an assists in the opening minute.
Kaylie Monday found Haworth from long range before hitting one of her own to cut the deficit to 54-42 with 6:23 remaining. After Campbellsville scored five straight
Kassie Monday converted a layup and added a steal which
Kaylie Monday finished as part of seven unanswered for UC making it 59-49 with 2:36 left. Later in the quarter, Burke and
Joy Kendrick added a layup each as Cumberlands cut the deficit to 66-56.
The Tigers went on an 11-4 run to open the fourth quarter and extend their lead.
Kaylie Monday drained one from behind-the-arc to make it 79-63 midway through the period.
LeeAnna McNulty converted four free throws as
Amy Thompson added one late for the 88-70 final.
