Patriots Remain Unbeaten at Home With Balanced Attack

Williamsburg, KY – The #15 UC women's basketball team had five players net at least eight points in their win over Bryan Monday night on Randy Vernon Court.  With the win, the Patriots improve to 12-4 overall and 7-0 at home this season.

Kaylie Monday led the way with 13 points, five rebounds, and four steals, while Destiny Haworth added 12 points.  Kassie Monday had a strong second half finishing with 10 points to go along with six assists, four rebounds, and two steals.  Channing Lewis chipped in 10 points, while Amerah Steele and Lakin Burke combined for 16 points, 11 rebounds, and five steals.

The Patriots won the opening tip as Kaylie Monday found Haworth on the wing for a three, it was her first of two straight giving Cumberlands the early 6-0 lead.  After seven unanswered by the Lions, Lewis found Burke on the block for a layup to put UC in front 8-7 with 4:59 remaining.  Victory Fredricks added six points off assists from Kassie Monday, Jaiden Cox, and Joy Kendrick to extend UC's lead to 15-12, before Kaylie Monday connected with Steele for a jumper putting Cumberlands in front 17-13 after the first quarter.

The two teams traded points over the first four minutes of the second period until Kassie Monday found Kaylie Monday for a three-pointer to put UC in front 28-25.  After Bryan took a one-point lead, Lewis responded with four straight points before Fredricks connected with Kaylie Monday for a three to make it 36-30 with 3:20 left.  The Lions closed out the half on a 5-2 run, however, UC led 38-35.

Cumberlands opened the third quarter with Steele draining a 20-foot jumper, before adding layups from Kaylie Monday and Kassie Monday to make it 44-38 with 7:48 remaining. On the next possession, Kaylie Monday notched a steal and laid it in to give UC their largest lead of the game at 46-35.  The two teams continued to trade possession as a Kassie Monday jumper at6 the 3:48 mark gave UC a 53-45 edge.  The Patriots added jumpers from Haworth and Kendrick in the final minute of the quarter to take a 59-54 lead into the fourth quarter.

Burke netted three of UC first five points in the fourth quarter, while Lewis added a block to extend their lead to 64-57 with 6:51 remaining.  Bryan went on a 9-2 run, over a four minute span, to even the score, however, Kassie Monday sank a jumper to put the Pats back in front 68-66 with 1:50 remaining.  Burke force her fourth steal of the game and on the ensuing possession Kassie Monday connected with Lewis for a three-pointer to make it 71-66 with 51 seconds remaining.  Monday added a pair of free throws to close out the win for the 73-69 final.

UC held a 15-11 edge in steals and 32-29 advantage in rebounds over the Lions.
