Campbellsville, KY – In a mid-week Mid-South Conference match-up, the #10 Patriots walk away victorious against the Campbellsville Tigers, 1-0. An early goal for the Patriots came in the first five minutes of play off a corner kick from Emil Skursch. Strong defensive efforts held the Tigers at bay to secure the 1-0 victory.
Collectively, UC tallied 9 shots with four being on frame. Bart-Jan Braams led the way with one goal, one shot and one on frame. Adrian Choco, Fabio Galeano Bazan, and Bruno Marques each tallied one shot with one on frame.
In the first five minutes of play, Salvador Martinez took the first shot of the match in the '3 followed by a shot on goal from Choco to set UC up with a corner kick. In the fifth minute of play, Skursch took the corner and sliced it across the box, finding the foot of Braams and securing the 1-0 lead.
With an early lead, the Pats had to remain sharp on defense. In the 19th minute, the Tigers took their first shots of the match but were blocked by a strong backline from the Pats.
Campbellsville continued to attack on the offensive third of the pitch, seeing a pair of corner kicks and a trio of shots in the final three minutes of the first half. Strong efforts amongst UC's back line and from Javiero Izquierdo Cuervo held the Tigers scoreless heading into the half.
At the start of the second half, Galeano Bazan took a shot on frame in the '47 and set up Skursch for another corner kick. The Patriots looked to add to their lead but were unable to.
The Tigers were unsatisfied and were pressing on offense, recording four shots and two corner kicks in the span of ten minutes. The Pats were resilient, seeing the backline hold strong and keeping the Tigers scoreless.
With eight minutes remaining, both teams were evenly matched. The Tigers took one last chance and marked a trio of corner kicks and a pair of shots but were held to a 1-0 shutout as the Pats claimed the victory.
Cumberlands returns to the UC Soccer Complex in Williamsburg, KY, on Friday, October 18 for an MSC showdown against #14 Cumberland University (TN). The match is set to kickoff at 4:30 p.m. (EST).
