Georgetown, KY – The (RV) Patriots volleyball team extended their win streak to eight straight matches after defeating Georgetown 3-0 (25-17, 25-18, 25-15), for their 16
th sweep of the season Monday night. With the win, UC improves to 27-3 on the year and 6-2 in MSC play.
Sara Zampedri notched a team-high 13 kills to lead the way, while
Allyson Grava chipped in eight and
Kara Gipson finished with seven kills.
Savanah Jolly dished out 21 assists as
Kendall Arnold finished with 13 assists and seven digs.
Juliet Banks led the defense with 15 digs, while
Kendall Yarber and
Davey Slaughter tallied nine digs and two aces each.
Jolly opened the Pats scoring with a kill and an assists as UC tied the match at 2-2. The match was tied three more times before a Grava kill sparked a four point run that included a pair of kills from Aleksandra Augustynik to put UC up 10-6. After a Tigers run, Jolly dished out a trio of assists including one to
Alana Shiery to make it 14-10. Cumberlands utilized a five-point and a three-point run before Grava closed out the first with a kill as UC earned the 1-0 lead.
The Patriots jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the second set. The two teams traded points a 6-2 Georgetown run put the Tigers in front 11-10. Cumberlands responded with five straight points that was capped off by a double block from Grava and Gipson putting UC in front 15-11. Georgetown pulled within a point twice, however a Augustunik kill sparked a five point run giving UC the 23-17 advantage. Jolly found Zampedri and Gipson for kills to close out the set 25-18 and extend the lead to 2-0.
UC rattled off three kills to take a 4-0 lead to open the third set. Cumberlands extended their advantage to 9-3 with a 5-1 run as Gipson and Grava tallied kills. The Tigers cut the lead to 10-8, however a Yarber ace coupled with a Shiery block extend the lead to 15-9. The Patriots tallied a four-point run before closing out the set on a three-point with kills from Grava and Augustynik as UC took the set 25-15 and the 3-0 win.
Cumberlands 27 wins are tied for the fourth most wins in season in program history.
UC will return to the court on Wednesday, October 23, when they return home to host Bethel. First serve is set for a 7 p.m. with live video available
