Box Score Columbia, KY – The UC men's soccer team couldn't overcome an early deficit as they fell to Lindsey Wilson 6-1 Wednesday night at Ray Wells Field. With the win, the Blue Raiders improve to 6-5-2 overall and 3-1 in conference play, while the Patriots move to 9-2-1 overall and 2-2 in conference play.
The Patriots earned a corner kick three minutes into the match but couldn't convert. On the counter attack the Blue Raiders put a shot just inside the post to give Lindsey Wilson a 1-0 lead. UC tallied a trio of shots over the next 20 minutes as the Pats fell behind 2-0. The Blue Raiders scored late in the half to make it 3-0 at the break.
Javiero Izquierdo made a pair of saves in the first ten minutes of the second half to keep the Patriots within striking distance. A couple minutes later
Rodrigo Riveros was fouled in the box setting up a penalty kick.
Salvador Martinez stepped up and bury home his seventh goal of the season to cut the deficit to 3-1 in the 59'. The was the closest UC came as Lindsey added some insurance goals for the 6-1 final.
Cumberlands returns to the pitch Tuesday, October 29, when they travel to Henderson, TN to face Freed-Hardeman. This match was rescheduled from earlier this year and kickoff is set for 8 p.m.
