No. 9 Pats Mark Three Goal Scorers in 3-0 Victory Against Freed-Hardeman Lions

Henderson, TN – In their final Mid-South Conference regular season match-up, the No. 9 Patriots netted a trio of goals against the Lions of Freed-Hardeman. Riveros netted his ninth goal of the season, followed by Shuma Sasaki with his third goal while Hugo Champalloux netted his first goal. The Pats rise to a 10-2-1 overall record and 3-2 MSC record.

Collectively, UC tallied 10 shots with nine being on frame. Riveros led the way with one goal and two assists. Sasaki followed with one goal, three shots with three on frame. Champalloux netted a goal with one shot and one on frame.

The Patriots were quick to record the first shot on frame of the match. In the '4, Cumberlands marked their first corner kick followed by Sasaki with a shot on frame to the bottom left of the net.

In the '17, the Patriots quickly worked on the offensive third of the pitch. Patrick Ostergreen dribbled the ball up field and to the outside corner of the box before sending it across to Riveros. Riveros soars through the air and heads the ball into the top left of the goal for a 1-0 Patriot lead.

Through the remaining 28 minutes of play, UC marked four free kicks, two shots on frame, and two saves from goalie Zachary Dean. Cumberlands entered the half with a 1-0 lead over the Lions.

At the start of the second half, Bruno Marques recorded two shots on frame but was unable to get past a resilient Lions goalie. In the 58th minute, the Patriots defense stole the ball from a Lions defender and quickly worked up field. Riveros passed the ball to the top of the box for Sasaki to drill the back of the net for a 2-0 UC lead.

The Patriots continued on the offensive third of the pitch, taking numerous shots and recording a handful of free kicks. The Lions were looking for their first goal of the evening, but Cumberlands' back line held them at bay.

With less than two minutes to play, Riveros works the ball past two defenders off the pass up field from Tjerk Meijs. Riveros works around the defenders before passing it across to Champalloux who slides and nets the third goal of the match for the Patriots, securing the 3-0 victory over the Lions.

Cumberlands returns to Williamsburg, KY on Monday, November 4, for their final MSC regular season match-up of the year. The Patriots will host Georgetown College at 4:30 p.m. (EST) and will also be honoring their seniors.
