Williamsburg, KY – The seventh-ranked Patriots utilized a 34-point second quarter to open the game and defeat Miami-Hamilton 93-43 Thursday night as part of the Patriots Classic. With the win, UC improves to 3-0 on the season.
Kaylie Monday led the way with 23 points, five steals, five rebounds, and three assists. With her five steals,
Kaylie Monday became Cumberlands career steal leader with 269 surpassing Candi Fannin, who set the record in 1994.
Kassie Monday recorded her eighth double-double with 15 points and 10 assists, while
LeeAnna McNulty chipped in 10 points and nine rebounds.
Zaram Fredricks grabbed seven rebounds to go along with six points.
Kassie Monday hit a jumper before connecting with
Joy Kendrick for a three-pointer to put UC in front 5-1. A few minutes later, the Patriots went on a 6-0 run that was capped off with a
Jaiden Cox steal and assists to
Kaylie Monday making it 13-5 with 3:33 remaining. Cumberlands closed out the quarter on a 12-2 run, including
Lakin Burke netting four of her nine points, to make it 23-9.
UC opened the second quarter with five unanswered points with buckets from both Monday's, pushing the lead to 28-9. A minute later,
Kaylie Monday netted seven straight points before
Kassie Monday connected with
Brittni Allison for a transition layup to give UC a 37-16 edge. The Patriots utilized a 13-1 run which was capped with a
Mackenzie Babb three-point play to extend the lead to 52-18. UC netted the final five points of the quarter to take a 57-22 lead into the half.
Burke and Fredricks open the third quarter combining for the Patriots first ten points of the period to make it 67-27 with 6:43 left. The two teams traded buckets before
Ava Schureman, McNulty, and
Payton Acey each added a putback extending the lead to 82-33.
Kaylie Monday opened the fourth quarter with her record-setting 269
th career steal that led to an Acey jumper. After the Harriers went on a 6-2 run, Allison found
Kylie Fultz for layup midway through the quarter. Schureman and Kendrick recorded a late field goal for the 93-43 final.
Cumberlands returns to the court on Friday, November 1, when they host West Virginia Tech as part of day two of the Patriots Classic. Tip-off is set for 11 a.m. as this is serving as UC's Elementary School Day.
