Five Patriots in Double Figures, Kendrick Tallied Double-Double in Win

Williamsburg, KY – All five Patriots starters tallied double figures led by Joy Kendrick's first career double-double as #7 Cumberlands defeated West Virginia Tech 95-45, Friday afternoon on Randy Vernon Court.  With the win, UC improves to 4-0 on the year, while the Golden Bears move to 0-2.

Kendrick led the way with a career-high 16 points and 10 rebounds, while Kaylie Monday added 15 points, four steals, and four rebounds.  Zaram Fredrick finished with ten points and eight rebounds as Kassie Monday notch 12 points and six assists.

Cumberlands won the opening tip and on that possession Lakin Burke found Fredricks for a layup making it 2-0.  The two teams traded baskets until the Patriots went on an 11-0 run, that included four points and an assist from Kassie Monday extending the lead to  17-5.  Kaylie Monday drained her second three-pointer of the quarter before Jaiden Cox converted a layup to make it 24-12 with 3:09 remaining.  West Virginia Tech closed out the period on a 9-4 run to cut the lead to 28-21.

LeeAnna McNulty opened the second quarter with a three-point play pushing the lead back to double-figures.  Fredricks added a putback layup before finding Kendrick for a three-pointer to make it 36-23 with 8:24 remaining. The two teams traded baskets until the Patriots closed out the half with ten unanswered points, including a three-pointer from Ava Schureman to make it 51-31 at half.

UC opened the third quarter with Kaylie Monday tallying a steal and layup as part of six-point run, giving the Patriots a 57-31 advantage.  The teams traded free throws before Burke found Kendrick on a backdoor cut for a layup making it 62-33 midway through the quarter.  UC closed out the third quarter on a 17-0 run, that spanned the final five minutes of the period.  Seven different Patriots scored as part of the run as UC took a 79-35 lead.

The two teams traded points before a Kylie Fultz putback coupled with a three-pointer from Kendrick to make it 86-37, two minutes into the quarter.  Cumberlands utilized an eight-point scoring run that was capped off with Schureman connecting with Payton Acey for a three-pointer as the Patriots earned the 95-45 win.

In the game, UC outrebounded the Golden Bears 55-16 and dished out 19 assists in the game.

Cumberlands returns to the court on Friday, November 8, when they travel to Huntington, IN to face the Foresters.    Tip-off is set for 5 p.m.
