Williamsburg, KY – The (RV) Cumberlands volleyball team overcame a first set deficit to defeat Campbellsville 3-1 (18-25, 25-21, 25-18, 25-15) Tuesday night at the UC Volleyball Gym. With the win, UC improves to 26-3 overall and 5-2 in MSC play, while the Tigers move to 18-9 and 5-2 in conference.
The Patriots improved their attacking percentage each set tonight, closing out the match with 60 kills and a .299 attacking percentage.
Sara Zampedri continues to be red hot for UC and lead the team with 23 kills to go along with seven digs.
Aleksandra Augustyniak notched a career-high 15 kills, while
Allyson Grava and
Kara Gipson combined for 15 kills.
Kendall Arnold dished out 27 assists to go along with nine digs, while
Savanah Jolly chipped in 24 assists. A trio of Patriots reach double-digit digs led by
Kendall Yarber, who tied her career-high with 13.
Campbellsville took the first set 25-18 to give the Tigers the 1-0 lead. UC opened the second set with a kill from Zampedri and an ace from
Davey Slaughter as part of a 3-0 run. The Tigers took four of the next five points to even the score before Zampedri struck again with back-to-back kills giving the Patriots a 7-4 edge. A couple points later, Arnold connected with Gipson for a kill, which sparked a 7-2 Cumberlands run to extend their lead to 14-8. After Campbellsville pulled within three, Gipson and Zampedri put well placed attacks to make it 18-13. The two teams traded points until Arnold found Grava for a kill to close out the set 25-21 and even the score at 1-1.
The Patriots opened the third set with a 4-2 edge after an ace from Arnold. Grava added a trio of kills to extend the lead to 10-5. The Tigers chipped away at the lead pulling within two points before Zampedri notched a pair of kills extending the lead to 17-12. Cumberlands utilized a pair of two-point runs before closing out the set on a three-point that included a kills from Augustyniak and Zampedri to put Cumberlands in front 2-1.
Campbellsville went on 7-4 run to open the fourth set. The two teams traded points, before a three-point Patriot run tied the score at 8-8. Cumberlands utilized a seven-point run that saw a pair of kills from
Alana Shiery along with a pair of
Davey Slaughter aces to give the Pats a 15-9 edge. The two teams traded points until Arnold found Grava for a kill making it 21-15. UC closed out the set with four straight points, including back-to-back Kendall Yarbor aces to clinch the set 25-15 and the match 3-1.
UC will return to the court on Monday, October 144, when they travel to Georgetown, KY to face the Tigers. That match is set for a 7 p.m. first serve.
