Williamsburg, KY – The eighth-ranked UC women's basketball team had four players in double figures and pulled away in the second half for the 100-60 win over IU Southeast Tuesday night on Randy Vernon Court. With the win, UC improves to 8-1 on the season.
Kaylie Monday led the way with 22 points, seven rebounds, and four assists, while
Joy Kendrick notched her second double-double of the season with 11 points and 12 rebounds.
Kassie Monday dished out ten assists to go along with nine points and six rebounds.
Lakin Burke and
LeeAnna McNulty combined for 23 points in the win.
The Patriots won the opening tip and on the ensuing possession
Kassie Monday hit a four-foot jumper to put Cumberlands in front.
Kaylie Monday and
LeeAnna McNulty hit back-to-back jumpers to put UC in front 8-6 midway through the first quarter. The Grenadiers went on a five-point run to take an 11-8 lead before
Kassie Monday connected with
Payton Acey for a three-pointer to tie the score with 3:54 remaining. The two teams traded baskets before
Kassie Monday found Burke in the post for a layup giving UC a 17-13 edge.
Kassie Monday tallied an assist and a layup as Cumberlands took a 21-20 lead.
Cumberlands opened the second quarter on an 11-2 run, that included four points from Burke, extending the lead to 32-22 midway through the period. IU Southeast went on a 6-2 run, before
Jaiden Cox and
Kaylie Monday each hit from long range to extend the lead to 40-30 with 2:01 remaining. In the closing minute of the half,
Kaylie Monday found Kendrick on the wing for a three-pointer giving UC a 43-30 lead at the break.
Kaylie Monday opened the second half with two rebounds and a pair of assists as part a 6-0 run to make it 49-30, two minutes into the third quarter. The two teams traded baskets over the next several minutes extending the Patriots lead to 55-35. Two minutes later,
Kaylie Monday converted her second three-point play of the quarter as part of a UC 6-2 run, that was capped off with a
Mackenzie Babb giving Cumberlands a 63-39 lead.
Kassie Monday dished out three assists before grabbing a rebound and putting it home to cap off a 10-2 run, giving Cumberlands a 79-45 advantage, just over two minutes into the fourth quarter. The two teams traded baskets over the next three minutes until
Brittni Allison drained a three-pointer to make it 90-56 with 3:38 remaining. UC had back-to-back layups from Fredricks and Cox for the 100-60 final.
