Monday’s Career Game Highlights #7 Patriots Road Win

Barbourville, KY – Kaylie Monday notched a career-high 27 points to lead the seventh-ranked UC women's basketball team to an 88-45 win over Union Commonwealth Monday afternoon.  With the win, the Patriots improve to 14-1 overall on the season.

Monday netted a career-high on 10-14 from the field to go along with a season-high 10 steals and nine rebounds.  Kassie Monday added 12 points, six assists and four steals.  Lakin Burke and Ava Schureman finished with seven points each while combining for nine rebounds and four steals.  LeeAnna McNulty chipped in seven rebounds.

Burke netted the first four points of the game for Cumberlands giving them a 4-1 lead, just over three minutes in.  The two teams traded baskets until Kaylie Monday completed a three-point play while a pair of UC steals transitioned into a 7-0 Patriots run making it 13-8 with 3:44 remaining.  Cumberlands picked it up on the defensive end of the court and closed out the quarter on a 10-2 to take a 24-12 lead.

Kaylie Monday opened the second period with a steal and layup before McNulty notched a block and a transition layup extending the lead to 28-12.  A Kassie Monday layup sparked a 14-2 run, that spanned seven minutes, to give UC a 42-19 lead.  The Bulldogs scored three points in the closing minute of the half cutting the lead to 42-22 at the break. 

Kassie Monday notched a steal on the opening possession of the third quarter and connected with Jaiden Cox for layup.  A minute later, Monday dished out a pair of assists to Burke and Kaylie Monday as part of a 7-0 run to give Cumberlands a 52-26 lead with 6:53 left. UC utilized an 8-0 run that included a layup for Zaram Fredricks extending the lead to 60-28.  In the close minutes of the quarter Anaia Hoard found Amy Thompson for a three as the Patriots took a 64-30 lead into the fourth quarter.

Thompson drained her second three pointer of the day before Ava Schurman added a fastbreak layup a minute into the fourth period. Cumhberlands continued to added to their lead with a Schureman three-pointer and four straight points from Brittni Allison made it 76-36 in favor of the Pats.  Union scored four straight before Cumberlands answered with Allison finding Mackenzie Babb and Payton Acey for three midway through the quarter.  Acey, Allison, and Schurman combined for UC's final six points and the 88-45 final.
