Portsmouth, OH – The Cumberlands men's swimming team collected 12 wins and achieved six NAIA provisional cuts in their final meet of 2024, Friday afternoon against Shawnee State. The Patriots had nine different swimmers post wins in their respective individual event.

UC opened the meet with Agustin Rasche, Mateus Lopes Cruz, Marcelo Rojas, and Creed Farthing teaming up to win the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:48.44.

Cruz paced the way for the Patriots earning two wins and achieving national cuts in both events.  He won the 100 back with a time of 59.37, before touching the wall in 57.71 to finish first in the 100 fly.  That time was almost two seconds faster than the provisional standard.

In the 200 free, Juan Pablo Ramirez Zapata edged out Jeremiah Koenig by .11 seconds to earn the win.  The duo clocked a 1:58.37 and 1:58.48, respectively, with both of those times clipping the standard.  Ramirez Zapata pulled away from the field to win the 200 IM clocking a 2:12.81.

Zsombor Bene hit the provisional cut as he clocked a 2:08.81 to win the 200 back.  Jan Lucow also achieved the national cut with a runner-up time of 2:08.99. 

UC swept the podium in both the 800 free and the 200 breast.  In the 800 free, Sergio Saldamando Martinez was the top finisher with a time of 8:40.97, while Arda Mutlu (9:08.17) and Lucow (9:20.17) rounded out the top three.

Nikita Konovets touched the wall in 2:33.50 to win the 200 breast.  Marcos del Vado Sanz (2:39.84) and Josh Riegler (2:51.48) placed second and third.

Rojas won the 100 free with a time of 54.18, while Ruthiik Satti pulled away from the field to win the 400 free finishing in 4:19.40.  Josh Riegler captured the final individual win of the meet going 2:15.23 in the 200 fly.

In the final event of the day, the 200 free relay, it was UC's "B" relay of Ramirez Zapata, Satti, Bene, and Rojas that edged out the "A" relay for the win posting a winning time of 1:39.51. 

This concludes UC's 2024 portion of the schedule.  The Patriots returns to the pool on Saturday, January 4^th, when they travel to Milligan College, TN to face the Buffaloes with the meet scheduled to began at 11 a.m.
