Columbia, KY – Channing Lewis tied her career-high 18 rebounds as part a double-double to lead the 14
th-ranked UC women's basketball team to a 72-60 win over (RV) Lindsey Wilson Thursday night at Biggers Sports Center. The win improves the Patriots to 16-6 overall and it served as the Blue Raiders first home loss of the season.
Lewis grabbed ten defensive rebounds, to go along with ten points and a pair of blocks on the day.
Kaylie Monday and
Amerah Steele finished with 15 points apiece and combined for 10 rebounds, while Monday dished out a team-high five assists.
Lakin Burke totaled 10 points and two steals as
Kassie Monday grabbed a career-high eight boards.
Destiny Haworth scored UC's first five points of the game, before
Kassie Monday drained a three-pointer to put the Patriots in front 8-7. Cumberlands went on a 9-0 run, that spanned four minutes and was capped off by a Lewis layup to make it 17-9 with 3:38 left.
Kaylie Monday completed a three-point play before Lindsey Wilson closed out the quarter with six straight points to cut the lead to 22-17.
Cumberlands scored six straight points to open the second quarter with four of them coming from Burke to extend their lead to 28-17.
Victory Fredricks added four points as Cumberlands went into halftime with a 34-28 lead.
Two minutes into the third quarter
Kaylie Monday connected with
Kassie Monday for a three-pointer to make it 37-30. On the next UC possession, Steele completed a three-point play to push the lead back to double-digits. The two teams traded baskets over the next few minutes until
Joy Kendrick found Burke on the post for a layup to give Cumberlands a 48-37 edge. In the closing seconds of the quarter
Kassie Monday found Lewis on the wing for a three-pointer as UC took a 51-41 lead.
Kaylie Monday opened the fourth quarter with a three-pointer. The Blue Raiders notched seven unanswered points before Lewis grabbed an offensive rebound and putback to make it 56-48 midway through the period.
Kaylie Monday recorded two assists and drained a three-pointer over a minute stretch giving the Pats a 66-52 lead with 1:54 remaining. UC closed out the game hitting six straight from the charity stripe for the 72-60 final.
The Patriots return to the court Thursday, February 8, when they travel to Campbellsville, KY to face the third-ranked Tigers. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
