Williamsburg, KY – The No. 8 Patriots swept Shawnee State, 3-0, after run-ruling the Bears, 11-1 , in the final game of the series at Doyle Buhl Stadium on Friday afternoon. UC totaled 11 runs on 12 hits and five walks, and hold a record of 6-1.

Cesar Avila recorded a win and moves to 1-0 on the season. The junior pitched two career highs as a Patriot, going six full innings and throwing seven strikeouts. He faced 24 batters and allowed six hits and just one run.
Kailen Hamson entered in relief in the seventh inning and threw for one strikeout and no hits.
Caden Petrey had a successful day at the plate, going 3-for-3 with two homers, a double, and four RBIs.
Evan St. Claire went 2-for-3, marking an RBI double and a single.
The Pats were first to put runs on the board, in the bottom of the second.
Alec Gonzalez singled to right field and was followed by
Trent Prokes reaching on an error. The next batter,
Caden Petrey slammed a home run to bring in the two runners for a lead of 3-0.
In the bottom of three,
Evan St. Claire led off with a single up the middle and was advanced on a single by Harper. Both runners were put into scoring position on a wild pitch and St. Claire went home on an RBI ground out hit by
Jose Valentin.
Ben Snapp shot a double to right center, scoring Harper.
Third baseman, Petrey, took one across the plate in the bottom of the fourth inning, with a solo homer to left center, extending the lead to 6-0.
Shawnee State scored their first and only run of the game in the top of the fifth.
Cumberlands tallied five runs on five hits, adding to their lead and securing their win with a score of 11-1, in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Johnboy Rittenhouse walked to start the inning and was followed by a double down the left line by Petrey. On a sacrifice fly, Charlie Muñiz enabled both base runners to advance, scoring Rittenhouse. St. Claire marked an RBI double and scored when Harper hit an RBI single to right. The next batter, Valentin, was issued a walk and advanced on an RBI single from
Alec Gonzalez. Pinch runner,
Jay Flynn, substituted in the game for Valentin, crossing the plate when
Ben Snapp hit an RBI single to left field.
