#5 Patriots Utilized Fast Start, Strong Finish in Top 5 win over Keiser

West Palm Beach, FL – The fifth-ranked UC women's lacrosse team netted six goals in both the first and second quarter before outscoring fourth-ranked Keiser 8-0 in the fourth quarter for the 21-9 win Friday afternoon.  With the win, the Patriots improve to 2-0 on the season with their second top-ten win of the season. 

Anna Lobbezoo  led the way for UC with five goals, two assists, and five draw controls, while Morgan Terpstra notched five points.  Emma Rittman scooped a game-high ten draw controls to go along with four goals.  Aleyah Belton tallied her second consecutive hat trick to go along with three caused turnovers and three ground balls, while Reece Kincaid also notched a pair of caused turnovers in the win.

The Patriots struck first as Reese Kincaid scooped a ground ball, raced up field and netted a man-down goal to put UC in front 1-0.  Koral Hadac won the ensuing draw control and on that possession Aleyah Belton netted an unassisted goal to extend the lead to 2-0 three minutes into the game.  The two teams traded goals, before Belton notched her second goal of the game to extend the lead to 4-1 midway through the first quarter.  Cumberlands took advantage of a penalty as Morgan Terpstra connected with Marisa Helsten, who put a well-placed shot into the upper corner of the net to make it 5-1.  Two minutes later, Emma Rittman forced a Seahawks turnover and converted a one-on-one for a goal as UC took a 6-2 lead after the first quarter. 

Cumberlands extended their lead in the second as Kincaid scooped a ground ball and on the transition Terpstra connected with Ashlee Baker for a goal to make it 7-2.  The two teams traded goals before Anna Lobbezoo connected with her second goal of the period to extend the lead to 9-3 with 11:09 remaining.  Keiser scored two of the next three goals and Mia Bosah notched a save before Lobbezoo scooped a ground ball and fired it into the back of the cage to make it 11-5 with a minute remaining.  Rittman won the draw control and on the Patriots possession Mia Rask converted a free position goal giving Cumberlands the 12-5 advantage at the break.

The Patriots took advantage of a pair of Keiser penalties as Baker scooped a ground ball off a saved shot and on the next possession Lobbezoo connected with the cage to make it 13-5.  Keiser went on a four goal run to cut the lead to 13-9 before Kincaid forced a turnover, which Bosah scooped the ground ball to close out the third quarter. 

UC won the first four draw controls of the fourth quarter as Rittman converted three straight goals, including one which was assisted by Lobbezoo to make it 16-9 with 11:55 remaining.  Lobbezoo notched the next draw control and added an unassisted goal to extend the lead to 17-9 less than a minute later.  Terpstra added pair of goals before Baker found Morgan Tate just outside the crease to  make it 20-9 with 6:38 remaining.  Terpstra netted her fourth goal of the game before Hannah Yates forced a turnover and scooped the ground ball for the 21-9 final.

The Patriots held a 19-10 advantage on ground balls in the game, while scooping a 23-11 edge on draw controls.

Cumberlands will return to the field Monday, February 26, when they travel to face (RV) Ave Maria.  The game is slated to begin at 6 p.m.
