Kansas City, MO – After improving to 3-0 on the season with three wins coming against teams that are ranked or receiving votes in the NAIA, a pair of Patriots women's lacrosse players combined for a trio of national honors Tuesday. Midfielder
Anna Lobbezoo was named both the NAIA and IWLCA Offensive Player of the Week, while midfielder
Emma Rittman took home the NAIA Defensive Player of the Week accolades.
Lobbezoo earned pair of national Offensive Player of the Week honors after tallying a season-high five goals and seven points in the win over fourth-ranked Keiser. Lobbezoo netted three goals in the second quarter, including one in the final minute as UC took a 12-5 lead into the break. After Keiser went on a run in the third quarter, the Jenison, MI native recorded an assist and a goal as part of an eight-goal run as the Patriots closed out the win.
Rittman earned her second straight NAIA Defensive Player of the Week honor. The sophomore scooped a game-high ten draw controls to go along with four goals, a ground ball and a caused turnover. After Keiser cut the lead to 13-9 to start the fourth quarter, Rittman netted three straight goals, in a four minute span, and grabbed three draw controls in the period as the Patriots closed out the game with an 8-0 run. On the year, Rittman is averaging 11.5 draw controls per game and is second in the NAIA with 23 draw controls on the year.
Both Lobbezoo and Rittman are a critical part of UC's draw control team that earned 23 draws in the game as they are averaging 20.0 draw controls per game on the season.
The Patriots are back in action on Friday, March 1, when they travel to Marietta, GA to face fifth-ranked Life.
