Fast Start Keeps Third-Ranked Patriots Unbeaten

Adrian, MI – The third-ranked Cumberlands women's lacrosse team opened the game on an 11-1 run en route to a 19-4 road win over Siena Heights Saturday afternoon.  With the win, UC improves to 9-0 on the season.

Emma Rittman led the way with four goals, six points, and 11 draw controls, while Anna Lobbezoo added five points.  Marisa Helsten, Aleyah Belton, and Morgan Terpstra chipped in four points each as Peyton Koenig tallied two goals and an assist.  Koral Hadac scooped five draw controls as Hannah Yates and Mia Bosah combined for four saves.

UC scored a minute into the game as Lobbezoo connected with Terpstra for a goal and the 1-0 lead.  The two teams traded goals before Yates stopped a free position to keep UC's lead at 2-1.  The score remained that way until the 7:29 mark as Ashlee Baker found Rittman for a man-up goal.  Cumberlands added four unanswered goals, including Koenig first collegiate goal to make it 7-1 with 5:19 remaining.  In the closing minutes of the quarter, Cumberlands tacked on a goal as Helsten found Morgan Tate cutting towards the cage to make it 8-1.

Reese Kincaid forced a turnover to open the second quarter and on the ensuing possession Helsten connected with Rittman for a goal to make it 9-1.  UC continued to dominant the possession, added two more goals, while Yates tallied her second save to make it 11-1 at the break.

Siena Heights scored first in the third quarter, however, Rittman led the Patriots response with an assist to Helsten nine seconds later.  Lobbezoo and Belton combined for three of the next four goals as UC extended their lead to 16-2 with 5:30 left.  The Saints added two late goals as Cumberlands took a 16-4 lead into the fourth.  Cumberlands added a trio of goals in the fourth quarter, including Koenig netted her second of the game for the 19-4 final.

Cumberlands will travel to Southfield, MI to face top-ranked Lawrence Tech on Monday, March 18 at 4 p.m.  Live video will be available here.
