Williamsburg, KY – The second-ranked Patriots women's lacrosse team had five players with at least five points as Cumberlands defeated Tennessee Wesleyan 21-2 Wednesday night at the UC Lacrosse Complex. With the win, UC improves to 15-1 overall and 3-1 in AAC play.
Anna Lobbezoo and
Morgan Terpstra led the way for Cumberlands with six points apiece, while
Mia Rask notched a career-high four assists.
Ashlee Baker added five points, six ground balls, and six draw controls, while
Aleyah Belton notched a season-high nine draw controls four points, and three ground balls.
Koral Hadac led the defense with three caused turnovers to go along with three ground balls and six draw controls as
Mia Bosah and
Hannah Yates combined for two saves in the win.
Belton won the first four draw controls of the game which resulted in the Patriots scoring four goals in the first four minutes of action.
Sarah Linam capped off the scored run with her third goal of the season. UC forced a trio of turnovers coupled with a
Mia Bosah save kept the Bulldogs off the board.
Koral Hadac forced a turnover which led to an
Anna Lobbezoo unassisted goal extended the lead to 5-0 with 5:32 remaining. A minute later,
Erin Bryant tallied a caused turnover which led to
Ashlee Baker connecting with
Morgan Terpstra for a goal. Terpstra and Baker combined to add three more goals extending UC's lead to 9-0 after the first quarter.
Cumberlands continued their strong defensive efforts into the second quarter as Hadac tallied a caused turnover and a pair of ground balls in the first three minutes.
Mia Rask found a cutting
Peyton Koenig for a goal to give UC a 10-0 advantage. UC added three unanswered goals, including a pair from Lobbezoo to make it a 13-0 lead with 4:59 remaining. Cumberlands forced an unsuccessful clear before Lobbezzo found Terpstra for a goal to make it 14-0 at the break.
Early into the third quarter, Baker forced a turnover which resulted in Rask connecting with Marisa Heslten for a goal to give Cumberlands the 15-0 edge. After the two teams traded goals, Baker tallied an unassisted goal to make it 17-1 heading into the fourth quarter. Helsten and Rask each tallied a goal and an assist in the fourth quarter as part of the 21-2 final.
Cumberlands outshot Tennessee Wesleyan 44-6 in the game and held the Bulldogs to 9-24 on clears.
UC returns to the field Friday, April 5, when they host Truett McConnell in their home finale. This game is serving as UC's "Morgan's Message" game and is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
