Patriots Extend Win Streak to Six Straight After Taming Bears

Williamsburg, KY – The second-ranked UC women's lacrosse team netted 15 first half goals en route to a 24-2 win over Truett-McConnell Friday afternoon at the UC Lacrosse Complex.  With the win, Cumberlands improves to 16-1 overall and 4-1 in conference play.

Anna Lobbezoo led the way for UC with three goals, four assists, and four draw controls, while Marisa Helsten notched six points in the win.  Morgan Tate tallied a season-high six points, while Mia Rask and Ashlee Baker combined for 11 points.  Aleyah Belton notched four goals and five caused turnovers.  Koral Hadac scooped 11 draw controls and a pair of ground balls in the win.

Truett McConnel struck first with a goal 40 seconds into the game before the Patriots evened the score as Morgan Tate found Morgan Terpstra cutting towards the cage for a goal.  Anna Lobbezoo tallied a goal and dished a pair of assists to make it 4-1 with 12:10 remaining in the first quarter.  Aleyah Belton forced a turnover, which led to a Mia Rask unassisted goal extending the lead to 5-1. Koral Hadac tallied a caused turnover, ground ball, and draw control which led to a pair of Patriots goals to make it 7-1 midway through the first quarter.  Marisa Helsten added two of the next three goals to extend the lead to 10-1 after the opening quarter.

Baker won the first three draw controls of the second period as Morgan Tate netted two goals and tallied an assists to make it 13-1 with 11:57 remaining.  Cumberlands defense forced a trio of Truett-McConnell turnovers before Rask found a cutting Baker for a goal to extend the lead to 14-1.  Two minutes later, Tate forced a turnovers, scooped the ground ball, and led the transition finding Belton for a goal as the Patriots took a 15-1 lead into halftime.

Lobbezoo tallied a goal and a assists in the first five minutes of the third quarter as UC extended their lead to 18-1. Mia Bosah added a pair of saves before the two teams traded goals to close out the quarter. 

Belton won the first two draw controls of the fourth quarter as Helsten and Belton each added goals giving the Patriots a 21-2 advantage.  Jenna Veech netted her first collegiate goal as part of a three goal Patriots run for the 24-2 final.

Cumberlands outshot Truett-McConnell 49-12 in the game, while holding the Bears to 9-24 on clears in the game. 
 
UC returns to the field Wednesday, April 10, when they travel to Georgetown to face the Tigers in their regular season finale. The game is slated to begin at 6 p.m.
