Waleska, GA – The top-ranked UC women's soccer team utilized a pair of second half goals to defeat Reinhardt Wednesday afternoon. With the win, the Patriots improve to 2-0-0 on the year, while the Eagles move to 0-1-0.
Carola Fontan led the way for Cumberlands tallying a goal and an assist in the victory.
Jayden Boelter notched her fourth goal of the season.
Georgia Martell made a first half save to earn her second straight shutout to kickoff the 2024 campaign.
UC went on the attack first tallying two shots in the first eight minutes with one coming on frame, however, the match remained scoreless. Cumberlands added a corner kick before Reinhardt fired a shot towards the net but Georgia Matell was there for the save. The Pats responded with a pair of shots on frame in a two-minute span both of which were saved. In the 36' minute,
Carola Fontan sent a corner kick into the box, but UC's shot was blocked as the game remained scoreless heading into the break.
Cumberlands came out strong in the second half as
Nicole Araujo notched a wide shot two minutes into the period. A couple minutes later, the Patriots took advantage of an Eagles foul as
Carola Fontan put a well-placed shot into the upper corner of goal putting Cumberlands in front 1-0. UC continued to control the possession rattling off two shots over a two-minute span. The score remained until the 61' when Fontan connected with
Jayden Boelter for a goal extended the lead to 2-0. The Patriots controlled the possession adding eight shots over the next 20 minutes, six of which they put on frame.
UC outshot the Eagles 19-3 in the game and held a 3-1 edge on corner kicks in the contest.
The Patriots return home Saturday, August 24, when they host #19 Marian. The match is slated to begin at 4 p.m. with live video
