Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | UC Sports Information

#1 Patriots Utilize Fast Start to Remain Unbeaten

Williamsburg, KY – The top-ranked Cumberlands women's soccer team dominated the possession right from the opening whistle as they defeated Milligan 4-0 Wednesday night.  With the win, UC improves to 4-0 on the year, while the Buffaloes move to 0-2.

Jayden Boelter notched her third multi-goal game of the season, finishing with two goals and four points.  Sara Soto and Rita Aguye each netted their first goal of the season, while Noah Paalman and Sarah Hammerstone notched assists.  Georgia Martell and Hedvig Persson combined for the Patriots third shutout of the year.

UC came out clicking on all cylinders as Nicole Araujo played the ball out wide to Paalman, who crossed it into the box, where Boelter got a boot on it to push it pass the line for the 1-0 lead 37 seconds into the contest.  The Pats added a pair of shots before loose ball found its way to cleat of Soto, who put it home for her first collegiate goal extending the lead to 2-0 in the 5'.

Cumberlands continued to dominate the possession and in the 16' Boelter completed her brace as she followed her initial shot for a rebound goal to make it 3-0.  Later in the first half, Hammerstone took a Patriots corner kick and played the ball just inside the 18-yard box for Aguye, who took one touch before burying it into the net for the 4-0 advantage.

The second half saw the Patriots continue to control the possession as they recorded six shots, including three on frame but couldn't convert.  UC tallied 13 unanswered shots in the period before Perrson saved a Stella Van Beusichem shot in the 90' to keep the shutout intact.

UC outshot Milligan 38-1 in the game and held a 5-0 advantage on corner kicks.

The Patriots return to the pitch Saturday, September 7th, when they host #15 Indiana Wesleyan.  Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
