Williamsburg, KY – The Patriots (RV) (19-2, 1-1) fell to Lindsey Wilson (11-4, 2-0), 3-1, in a Mid-South Conference match on Tuesday evening. Cumberlands tallied 53 kills, six service aces, and six blocks across the four sets.
Sara Zampedri led for the Pats, compiling a season-high of 18 kills, along with three service aces and 16 digs. Setter,
Kendall Arnold, notched 35 assists, while
Savanah Jolly marked 12. On defense,
Juliet Banks collected 18 digs.
In the first set, the Patriots struggled offensively and trailed for the entirety until the Blue Raiders finished the set with a win, 25-23.
Cumberlands took a 3-2 lead with a kill by
Aleksandra Augustyniak and a Lindsey Wilson service error, in the second set. After the Blue Raider evened the score at 7-7, kills from
Kara Gipson and
Sara Zampedri, in addition to an attacking error on Lindsey Wilson, shifted UC into a 10-7 advantage. The Pats charged ahead, 17-13, after capitalizing on three consecutive Blue Raider errors. Gipson and Grava notched one kill each to make the score 19-15, in favor of Cumberlands. After giving up five straight points to Lindsey Wilson, a kill by
Rayne Manning and two attacking errors sealed the set at 27-25 for a Patriot win.
The Pats dropped a hard-fought third set to the Blue Raiders, 27-25. Cumberlands led the set, 21-18, until a late offensive burst from Lindsey Wilson saw a shift in momentum.
UC traded points back-and-forth with the Blue Raiders, in the fourth set, but two kills from Lindsey Wilson finalized the set at 26-24.
Cumberlands Volleyball (RV) will travel to Campbellsville for a Mid-South Conference match on Thursday, September 19
th at 7 p.m.
