Campbellsville, KY – Cumberlands Volleyball (19-3, 1-2) fell to the Tigers (14-8, 2-1) on the road, 3-0. The Patriots tallied 30 kills, 29 assists, and three service aces across the three sets.
Sara Zampedri led offensively for UC, marking 11 kills while
Allyson Grava took eight.
Savanah Jolly collected 16 assists and
Juliet Banks compiled 14 digs and Grava notched 10.
The Pats were quickly down 5-3 in the first set, scoring their first points off kills by Zampedri and
Aleksandra Augustyniak and a Tiger attacking error. Two consecutive attacking errors on Campbellsville and a service ace by Augustyniak put Cumberlands in an 8-6 lead. A pair of kills from Grava extended UC's lead to 12-10, but the Tigers powered back to lead 16-13. The Patriots struggled offensively and dropped the set, 25-16.
The second set saw the Pats up 4-1 off a pair of
Kara Gipson kills and two attacking errors on the Tigers. Kills by Zampedri and Grava increased UC's lead to 6-3, but Campbellsville leveled the score at 8-8 and took the lead from there, 25-16.
Cumberlands was down 12-2 in the third set, but three points off two attacking errors and a kill from
Faith Franklin trimmed the gap to 13-6. The Pats tallied five consecutive points but still trailed 18-12, seeing a kill apiece by Zampedri Gipson, and Grava in addition to an attacking error on the Tigers and an ace served by
Kendall Yarber. Campbellsville took the final set, 25-17.
UC will face Union on Saturday September 21
st, at 2:30 p.m. in Barbourville, KY.
