Patriots Cruise to 7-0 Behind Shutout Performance

Williamsburg, KY – The top-ranked Patriots had a pair of braces to lead the way in a 6-0 win over Shawnee State Wednesday night at the UC Soccer Complex.  The win is UC's fourth clean sheet of the year as the Pats improve to 7-0 overall.

Jayden Boelter and Abigail Little each tallied two goals in the win.  For Boelter it is her fifth multi-goal game of the season, whiles Little notches her first multigoal game of the year. Nicole Araujo and Kallen Fuller added second half goals to complete the 6-0 final. Juana Fernandez and Laura Bosca tallied two assists apiece, while Sarah Hammerstone and Maggie Johnson dished out an assist apiece.  Hedvig Person earns her first win in her first start for the Patriots with three saves.

Cumberlands controlled the possession from the opening whistle with six shots and four corner kicks in the first 12 minutes of play.  UC struck in the 14' as Fernandez brought the ball up the left flank before crossing it into the box for Boelter to finish, giving the Patriots the early lead.  Cumberlands continue to control the possession over the next several minutes before Boelter completed her brace in the 22'.  Fernandez crossed into the box where Boelter made one touch, before doing a sliding shot to knock it into the goal.  Later in the first half, Hammerstone played a through ball up field to Little for a goal extending the lead to 3-0 in the 33'.   Shawnee State looked to cut into the deficit, however, Persson made the save to keep Cumberlands in front 3-0 at half.

UC came out strong in the second half as Bosca connected with Little for a goal 34 seconds into the period.  The Patriots continued to control the possession and in the 58' Bosca crossed the ball into the box, where Araujo made a run to finish.  It was the second straight game that Araujo has netted a goal.  UC's final goal came in the 75' as Maggie Johnson played the ball into the box for Kallen Fuller to finish and net her first goal of the season.  Persson added a save in the 84' to complete the shutout and the 6-0 final.

The Patriots outshot Shawnee State 21-3, while holding a 10-0 advantage on corner kicks.

Cumberlands returns to the pitch Monday, September 23, when they host University of Jamestown.  The match is slated to begin at 6 p.m. with live video available here.
