Bristol, TN – The third-ranked Cumberlands Women's Wrestling team traveled to King University to compete in the Tornado Open with 12 wrestlers participating.
Leading the way for the Patriots, Annabelle Suto posted a 4-2 record on the day in the 131-weight class. In her first bout of the day, Suto faced #8 Olivia Messerly (Campbellsville University). She marked a pair of two-point takedowns, recording the last takedown to secure the 4-4 decision victory over her opponent. Advancing on, Suto notched a fall in 4:55 against Jessica Corredor (King University). Suto fell short and was sent to the consolation side of the bracket where she faced her teammate, Zoey Smith (UC Patriots). Suto recorded a 10-0 tech fall followed by a fall in 3:47 over Isabella Hoffman (Emmanuel University) to move through the consolation bracket. Suto ended up forfeiting her final bout of the day, leaving her to post a 4-2 record on the day.
Following suit, Ryleigh Hayes posted a 3-2 record on the day in the 110-weight class. In her first bout of the day, Hayes fell just short to be sent to the consolation side of the bracket. Hayes started to work her way through opponents, starting with a FF against Shelby Fugate (Huntingdon) followed by a 11-0 tech fall against Nila Bland (West Liberty University). Hayes continued with her success, notching a 13-2 tech fall over Haley Williams (University of Rio Grande) but fell short and ended with a 3-2 record on the day.
In the 117-weight class, Kaylin Taylor posted a 2-2 record on the day. In her first bout of the day, Taylor fell just short to be sent to the consolation side of the bracket. Taylor worked efficiently, notching a 14-4 tech fall over Emily Anderson (Campbellsville University). She pressed on, recording a fall in 1:22 against Audrey Smith (Lindsey Wilson College) before missing the mark and ending the day with a 2-2 record.
In the 131-weight class, Zoey Smith posted a 2-2 record on the day. In her first bout of the day, Smith fell just short to be sent to the consolation side of the bracket. Smith worked diligently, recording back-to-back falls. Her first fall came in 1:52 against Calista Gibson (Lincoln Memorial University) and the second came in 2:50 against Jillian Timberlake (West Liberty University). Smith finished the day with a 2-2 record.
Behind Smith, Alivia Ming posted a 2-2 record on the day in the 145-weight class. In her first bout of the day, Ming fell just short to be sent to the consolation side of the bracket. Ming worked quickly, recording a 10-0 tech fall against Leilani Martinez (Campbellsville University). She continued her success with a fall in 0:22 against Molly Keller (Emory & Henry University) before finishing the day with a 2-2 record.
In the 131-weight class, Asia Fowler was seen recording a 12-2 tech fall against Jillian Timberlake (West Liberty University). In the 207-weight class, MaQuoia Bernabe was seen recording a fall in 1:05 against Natalie Espinoza (Schreiner University).
Also competing for the Patriots was Elise Toste (110 bout), Dylan Hernandez (124 bout), Camarie Cunningham (131 bout), Brianna Merrfield (138 bout), and Elena Guerena (145 bout).
The Patriots will be back in action on Saturday, January 25 as they hit the road for the Warrior Open at Indian Tech University in Fort Wayne, IN. Bouts are set to begin at 9:00 a.m. (EST).
