Wichita, KS – The fifth-ranked Cumberlands women's wrestling looks to build upon the runner-up finish at the Mid-South Conference championships with a strong push during the 2025 NAIA National Championship that begins on Friday. The Patriots are one of 12 programs to have 12 wrestlers qualify for the championship.
The Patriots enter the championships with a 12-15 dual meet record this season, however, have been ranked in the top-five of the NAIA for majority of the season. UC had all 12 wrestlers earn automatic berths into the tournament field as
Micah Fisher,
Saiheron Preciado-Meza,
MaQuoia Bernabe, and
Naomi Duenas return to nationals after qualifying in 2024. Joining that quartet is
Dutchess King, Angelina Casteneda,
Shammilka Miranda,
Katie Gomez,
Presley Anderson,
Mary Jane Porter,
Annabelle Suto, and Alvia Ming.
In the 103-wight class, the Patriots will have a pair of wrestlers as both King and Casteneda will be competing. King, who enters nationals ranked sixth, as compiled an 18-7 record with four falls. The junior earned NAIA Wrestler of the Week honors earlier this season and has notched eight tech falls and two decisions. Casteneda has compiled a 12-6 record on the season with three falls and five tech falls. She placed fourth at the MSC Championships.
Gomez enters the National Championship with an overall record of 13-0. She has marked 11 tech falls and two decisions on the year. Gomez went 4-0 at the MSC Tournament to win her weight class and posted a 5-0 record at the Warrior Open. She is the 2025 MSC Freshman of the Year and enters the NAIA Championships ranked third. Joining Gomez in the 124-class is Anderson, who has compiled a 17-6 record on the year. Anderson notched a 6-1 record to place third at the Grand View Open and has notched eight falls on the season.
Competing in the 117-bout, Miranda enters the National Championship with an overall record of 26-12. She has notched 11 falls, 12 tech falls, and three decisions throughout the duration of the season. The junior went 3-1 at the MSC Tournament to post a third-place finish.
Fisher enters her second NAIA National Championship with an overall record of 25-7. During the season, she has marked a team-best 13 falls to go along with five tech falls and three decisions. Fisher earned MSC Second Team All-Conference honors for the second consecutive season and has posted a top two finish in four tournaments on the year. The junior compiled a 4-0 record to win the Trojan Open and she enters nationals ranked fourth in the 160-bout.
The Patriots will have a pair of wrestlers competing in the 131-bout as Porter and Suto. Porter enters the National Championship with an overall record of 22-10. During the season, she has notched two falls, 12 tech falls, and seven decisions while placing fifth at the MSC Tournament. Suto has compiled a 17-16 mark on the season, including six falls and three tech falls. She notched a second-place finish at the Trojan Open and finished sixth at the MSC Championships.
In the 145-bout, UC will be represented by
Alivia Ming, who enters nationals ranked ninth in the class. Ming has compiled a 24-15 record during her freshman campaign with 14 falls and eight tech falls. She posted a fourth place finish at the MSC Championships and notched a third-place finish at the Trojan Open.
Preciado-Meza will be representing the Patriots in the 170-weight class. Preciado-Meza comes into the National Championship with an overall record of 23-12, marking 11 falls, two tech falls, and seven decisions on the season. As a sophomore, she posted a trio of top-three finishes, including a 4-1 record to place third at the MSC Championships.
Rounding out the qualifiers, in the 207-bout, Duenas and Bernabe will both be representing UC. Duenas comes into the National Championship with an overall record of 11-6 with six falls and five tech falls, As a sophomore, she won the Trojan Open and will be competing in her second straight NAIA Championship. Bernabe comes into the National Championship with an overall record of 11-9, notching four falls, a tech falls, and four decisions on the season. This is Bernabe's fifth time qualifying for the National Championship, where she has been named an NAIA All-American three times.
