Williamsburg, KY – The tenth-ranked UC women's basketball team returned home to earn a 76-56 win over Lindsey Wilson Thursday night on Randy Vernon Court. The win is the Patriots fifth straight win as they improve to 19-3 overall and 5-1 in MSC play.
Kassie Monday led the way for the Patriots with 23 points, eight assists, and seven rebounds.
Lakin Burke tallied 14 points and 10 rebounds, while
Kaylie Monday notched 13 points and 10 rebounds for double-doubles as they combined for five steals.
Joy Kendrick chipped in nine points.
Cumberlands opened the game with Monday find Burke and
Jaiden Cox for baskets before scoring one of her own to make it 7-0. Lindsey Wilson went on an 11-5 run over the next four minutes to pull within a point before Monday found Kendrick on the wing for a three-pointer to make it 15-11.
Kaylie Monday added a steal and a layup on the next possession. In the closing minute of the period
Zaram Fredricks tallied her 100
th career block, which moved her into fourth in program history, as UC took a 17-14 lead after the opening quarter.
Burke connected with
Anaia Hoard for a jumper to open the second quarter extending the lead to 19-14. The two teams traded points, before
Kassie Monday connected with
Kaylie Monday for consecutive three-pointer to make it 27-20 with 6:21 remaining. Cumberlands closed out the first half on an 11-2 run, which was capped off by a
Lakin Burke putback to make it 40-26.
The two teams traded baskets over the first three minutes of the third quarter before Kendrick connected with
Kassie Monday and Burke for back-to-back layups extending UC's lead to 48-30 with 5:47 remaining. Cox capped off an 8-2 run with a three-pointer to close out the third quarter giving UC the 62-38 lead.
Fredricks recorded a putback to open the fourth quarter to give the Pats their largest lead of the game at 64-38. The teams traded baskets over the next four minutes before UC grabbed three offensive rebounds that led to a
Kassie Monday jumper making it 71-47 midway through the period.
Kassie Monday netted UC's final five points for the 76-56 final.
