#10 Patriots Utilize Strong Second Half to Defeat #3 Campbellsville 75-48

Williamsburg, KY – The tenth-ranked Cumberlands women's basketball outscored third-ranked Campbellsville 52-19 in the second half en route to a 75-48 win Saturday afternoon on Randy Vernon Court.  The win is UC's first win over the Tigers at home since February 13, 2016 as the Patriots improve to 20-3 on the year and 6-1 in MSC play.

Kassie Monday led the way for UC with 18 points, eight assists, and three rebounds, while Joy Kendrick added 17 points, including 3-4 from long range. Kassie Monday now has 180 assists on the season, which is fifth most in program history. Anaia Hoard tallied 12 points, and three steals, as Kaylie Monday and Lakin Burke combined for 18 points and 12 rebounds and five steals.  Zaram Fredricks chipped in three blocks and nine boards.

The two teams traded baskets with Kassie Monday notching a jumper and an assists to open the game. The game was tied twice before Campbellsville went on an 8-0, however Hoard found Kendrick  for a fastbreak layup cutting the score to 15-9 with 2:33 remaining.  Cumberlands struggled to hit shots as Campbellsville took a 19-11 lead after the first quarter.

UC came out in the second quarter missing their first seven shots of the period, however, a stellar defensive effort kept the score 23-11 midway through the period.  At the 4:41 mark, Hoard sank a jumper as the Patriots went on a 6-2 run pulling within eight at 25-17.  UC closed out the half with six unanswered points, including a Kaylie Monday steal and layup in the closing seconds to cut the deficit to 29-23 at the break.

Kaylie Monday opened the third quarter with a steal and on the ensuing possession Kendrick sank the first of two straight three pointers pulling the Patriots within two at 31-29.  Kendrick added a putback and a Fredricks block led to a Kassie Monday layup giving UC the 33-31 lead with 7:04 remaining.  After the two teams traded basket over the next four minutes, Fredricks connected with Kendrick on the win for a three to make it 42-38 with 1:48 remaining.  Hoard notched a steal, an assist, and a three-pointer in the closing minute as Cumberlands took the 47-38 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Both teams hit a layup to open the fourth quarter before Kassie Monday sank a pull-up jumper to make it 51-40 with 8:15 remaining.  A Hoard three-pointer sparked a 20-0 Patriots run, that spanned six minutes and made it a 71-40 game with 1:45 left.  On that run, Hoard recorded seven points and three assists, while four other Patriots scored and it was capped off by an Kaylie Monday three pointer.  The Patriots added free throws from Amy Thompson and Brittni Allison for the 75-48 final.

Cumberlands outrebounded the Tigers 36-23 in the game and held a 19-8 advantage on assists.  It also marked the first time since February 26, 2023 that Campbellsville was held under 50 points in a game. 

The Patriots return to the court Thursday, February 6th, when they travel to Georgetown, KY to face the seventh-ranked Tigers.  Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
